About us
On June 11, 1938, the Atlanta Housing (AH) was the first-ever public housing authority established in the U.S. when the City of Atlanta passed a resolution declaring the need for safe, affordable housing for families facing financial difficulty. Under Georgia law, we are commissioned to develop, acquire, lease and operate affordable housing for low-income people and families. We are a leader in transforming public housing and providing affordable communities for families, seniors and the disabled. In 1996, AHA spearheaded the model for mixed-income, mixed-use communities where residents can thrive in quality, healthy living environments and advance to self-sufficiency. AHA is the largest housing agency in Georgia and one of the largest in the nation. We are a real estate development company that serves nearly 50,000 people, including families in 16 mixed-income communities, 13 residential properties (11 senior high-rise buildings and two family communities) and AHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program participants. Our mission is to provide quality affordable housing in amenity-rich, mixed-income communities for the betterment of the community. The company’s goals are to 1) provide quality living environments 2) promote self-sufficiency and 3) facilitate economic viability. Visit www.atlantahousing.org to learn more about AHA.

Atlanta Housing reposted this
What role does great design play in housing policy? That was one of the many questions we contemplated during my fireside chat with the brilliant minds at HKS, Inc. Inc. I sincerely appreciate Sheba Ross Titus for facilitating such an important and timely discussion. In their Idea Theater, we explored the transformative power of design and creative vision, in its many forms, in shaping the future of our communities. We found a shared belief that we all are the designers, architects, and planners of the future. This view aligns closely with my vision for Atlanta Housing as an industry leader in affordable housing—one that uses quality housing as a platform for greater economic mobility, improved quality of life, and as an engineer of brighter futures. AH is reimagining what affordable housing can be and that change is being accelerated by the creativity of industry-leading developers, architects, designers, and visionaries. I shared with the group that Atlanta Housing needs partners who think beyond the blueprint and who see housing not just as structures but as catalysts for better lives. This is not an abstract reimagining. The opportunities to be part of it are here. I am grateful for the time and ideas the HKS team shared with me. I look forward to expanding this conversation.

The City of Atlanta and Invest Atlanta are transforming the historic tower and 14 Marietta Street into a vibrant residential and mixed-use project, enhancing Downtown Atlanta and integrating with other ongoing transformational developments. We're looking forward to the positive impact this will have on our community.
