In our neonatal intensive care unit, we see some of our tiniest patients. We also see some neonatal therapists with the biggest hearts! 🫶 Our neonatal therapists have specialized training in helping babies grow, promoting the infant-family connection, and providing neuroprotective support. They play such an essential role in the overall care of every baby in our NICU and we are so grateful for their work each and every day! ☀️ Let’s show some love for our neonatal therapists all across Atrium Health Levine Children’s! 💛

“Be grateful, love more and to try not to stress about the small stuff.” This is a life lesson Tara Brown has learned as a hospice and palliative care nurse practitioner, and now, as an organ donor. Tara began her journey in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), where she brought comfort to patients and families during challenging times. After serving at a children’s hospital in Rhode Island, she found her calling at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital, providing compassionate palliative care to young patients. “My job gives more than it takes, meaning that patients and families give so much more to me than I give to them,” Tara reflects. “When we are invited by families to be present during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives, we have the opportunity to witness the power of love and selflessness.” Every day, Tara strives to ensure that children and their families have as many meaningful moments as possible. “When awake moments are harder to come by, we comfort families by easing their child’s symptoms and creating a space filled with music, memories, laughter and tears.” Motivated by the resilience of her patients and their families, Tara chose to become an organ donor for her dear friend, former coworker and fellow NP, Jess, who was fighting liver disease. “Together, we took care of many families who in their heartache, chose to donate their child’s organs to help others…donation is truly a gift of life, that is how our patients’ families view it, and how I view it,” says Tara. Thanks to Tara’s selfless act of donating a portion of her liver, Jess has her life back, and both women are on the road to recovery. This APP Week and always, we celebrate the incredible dedication of our team members like Tara, who make a lasting impact on the lives of our patients and their families. Thank you, Tara, for your unwavering compassion ❤️💙💛
