About us

Official AUKUS Forum Program utilising AUKUS Connect to support Australian industry with investment & innovation. AUKUS Connect is dedicated to uncovering and nurturing opportunities that not only strengthen Australia's AUKUS capabilities but also propel Australian industry onto the global stage. AUKUS Connect is spearheaded by industry specialist Michael Sharpe, who is involved in a wide range of organisations across engineering, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, environmental sustainability, the space industry, academia, and the nuclear industry. He is extremely well connected with Australia’s manufacturing, industrial and political leaders, as well as the country’s top universities, including activities in the nuclear and AUKUS spheres. Widely regarded as one of the most connected people in Australian industry, with a strong focus on business transactions, Michael is focussed on transformation – helping countless businesses to access new export opportunities and enter adjacent markets such as traditional engineering firms entering the space and defence industries. This gives him an unrivalled ability to connect with key decision makers, to facilitate contacts between Australian and overseas manufacturers, establish joint ventures and establish supply chains. At the heart of our mission is the drive to support Australian industries in their growth trajectories and to unlock their export potential. By fostering strategic partnerships, we aim to cultivate a robust ecosystem where investors can contribute to and benefit from the largest industrial project in Australia's history.

What does a car manufacturer whose models race past the tracks in a Formula One race and the manufacturer of a hypersonic missile have in common? To a layman this may be like comparing oranges to apples. It has now emerged in various news reports that the Formula One team McLaren will be collaborating with the British Ministry of Defence on its hypersonic missile program. The car maker will be amongst other things advising the Ministry of Defence on matters pertaining to optimizing supply chain relationships. The details of the cooperation remain vague and this comes in the midst of an arms race in the manufacturing and innovation in the field of hypersonic missiles. The Accelerator team of McLaren and the defence ministry’s hypersonic department will be collaborating. The car manufacturer confirmed that they are not in the business of production of hypersonic missiles. This project will see the car brand share their knowledge of high-performance environments among others. See https://lnkd.in/gbEnZNGy AUKUS Forum #AUKUS Michael Sharpe

New Zealand Defence Minister Judith Collins will provide an update on the situation - BREAKING NEWS The HMNZS Manawanui sank this morning after running aground on a reef near the southern coast of Upolu in Samoa last night and catching fire. This morning, Maritime Component Commander Commodore Shane Arndell said the 75 crew and passengers aboard HMNZS Manawanui made it to safety in Samoa after the ship grounded near the southern coast of Upolu. They are being supported in Samoa or on supporting vessels. “We are very grateful for the assistance of everyone involved, from RCCNZ who coordinated rescue efforts, to the vessels which responded and took our crew and passengers from Manawanui to safety,” Arndell said. At this stage the exact cause of the grounding is unknown and this will need further investigation. At 6.40am Sunday, the ship was listing heavily and smoke was visible from the ship. At 9.00am it was known to have capsized and was below the surface. The NZDF is working with authorities to understand the implications and minimise the environmental impacts. The NZDF will be sending aircraft to Samoa to bring them back to New Zealand. See https://lnkd.in/ggq6_qvs #AUKUS Michael Sharpe

CEO @ DekkoSecure | Company Directors Course

It was a pleasure to attend the 10th annual AuSec event in Canberra recently. I enjoy meeting like-minded people at these events, where the focus is on national security and the importance of cybersecurity in the space. I come to these events to learn and to create conversation around security. We need to change the way we talk about cybersecurity and the way we implement it. Security shouldn’t be a reactive, expensive afterthought. It needs to be built into the DNA of our digital environments.

Chief Manufacturing Officer @ State of Connecticut | Driving Manufacturing Growth | Building CT’s Clean Economy | Manufacturing Visionary | Keynote Speaker | Advisory Board Leader

We kicked off #ManufacturingMonth in Connecticut with the Manufacturing Outlook sponsored by the Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce. This is where is all began for me. At this event in 2021, I learned that Colin Cooper was retiring and that the Chief Manufacturing Officer position was available. I expressed my interest and the rest, well, is history! Thanks to Katie D'Agostino, Johnny Burnham, Andrew LaForge and the team at the Chamber for always inviting me back. It was a packed house at the Doubletree and we kicked off the month in high fashion. #MakeItHere #CTLeads #manufacturing

Civilians must be ready to fight because Britain’s military is so small, warn peers. The House of Lords International Relations and Defence Committee has published its report. Damning report says evidence suggests size of Army is inadequate and urges country to think of itself as ‘a nation under genuine threat’ Commenting on the report, Lord de Mauley, who chairs the Committee said: “We welcome the Government’s launch of the Strategic Defence Review, which presents an opportunity to set clear priorities and develop a holistic model for strengthening UK Defence that mobilises all elements of national power, leveraging technology, industry, Reserves, allies, and wider society. Given the perilous threat environment, the Government must not miss this chance and must commit to spending more on defence and spending better.” Key conclusions and recommendations of the report include: Defence industry preparedness: The UK’s defence industry is unprepared for sustained conflict due to years of underinvestment. There is a lack of trust between government and the defence industry, which needs to be addressed through clearer, long-term Government commitments to allow industry to take risks and increase output. Innovation: Non-traditional defence suppliers, such as start-ups, SMEs and tech companies, are key to innovation and accelerating the pace of delivery, but they face barriers in accessing the defence market. The Government needs to facilitate a ‘broad church’ of industry engagement, beyond the traditional defence sector. #AUKUS Michael Sharpe See https://lnkd.in/gEGrChTq
