Did you know that the remote Arnhem Land is just a one-hour flight from Darwin and two hours from Cairns? Arnhem Land is home to some of the most exclusive world-class fishing experiences in Australia. The water is so crystal clear and blue. The coast and inland rivers are a haven for huge barramundi and other giant fish. Here, you won't find the usual crowds, just you and the big catch. Whether you prefer a fishing charter, your own boat, or a lodge adventure, the choice is yours. Arnhem Land is a true wilderness reserve and one of the few unspoiled regions of the world. The Gulf of Carpentaria is on the east side of Arnhem Land and the Arafura Sea on the north. Numerous tropical tidal rivers intersect the coast. These rivers are a paradise for fishing, but are only accessible to visitors carrying entry permits. As a visitor to Arnhem Land, you'll need to go through accredited fishing tour operations to legally explore and fish in much of the area. These tours offer a range of options, from lodge to safari tent accommodations, to live on board a luxury vessel, with guided fishing. Four-wheel drives, regular scheduled flights to remote Aboriginal communities, or private charter flights facilitate travel. Have you added an Arnhem Land fishing tour to your bucket list? #SportFishing

At this time of year (late January to early February), sport fishing charters in North Queensland and the Northern Territory typically deal with the summer wet season, which brings hot, humid weather and frequent rainfall. This can affect fishing conditions, but it also presents some unique opportunities. Here’s a general breakdown of what these areas are up to during the wet season: North Queensland: Reef Fishing: Although the Great Barrier Reef is a year-round destination for sport fishing, the weather can sometimes cause interruptions during the summer months. However, fish like coral trout, #RedEmperor, and reef species are still catchable, especially if the charters can navigate any weather disruptions. Mackeral and Pelagics: Spanish mackerel and other #pelagic species like tuna and giant trevally are often targeted during the wet season. The cooler water currents from the south can bring these fish closer to the coast. Inshore Fishing: Fishing closer to the shore for species like barramundi, jacks, and mud crabs can be populous in rivers and estuaries. Barra is especially popular this time of year with peak fishing in the tropical wet season, especially for those doing catch-and-release fishing. Rain and Floodwaters: The wet season brings higher river levels and increased floodwaters, which can affect saltwater fishing by influxing nutrients into estuaries. This makes it an exciting time for anglers after species like queenfish and grunter. Northern Territory: Top End Wet Season Fishing: The Top End, including areas like Darwin & Nhulunbuy, is especially famous for #barramundifishing in the wet season, the peak time for catching this iconic species. The rivers and billabongs swell, creating perfect conditions for barra and other species like threadfin salmon and queenfish. Mud Crabbing: Crabbing remains popular through this time, with mud crabs more abundant in the estuarine waters. Fishing on Flooded Waters: Many anglers head out to catch barra in the flooded billabongs, which can be quite a spectacle! Casting and trolling are standard techniques used. Sportfishing on the Coast: For those looking for more variety, reef and deep-sea fishing remain consistent year-round in the NT, targeting species like sailfish, mackerel, and GTs. However, the rain can make the seas rougher, meaning charters might focus on calmer waters or #estuaryfishing until the weather clears. Let us know if you have a question about a particular location or type of #fishing. Australian Sportfishing Charters

The 2025 Tropical Summer #Fishing Season kicks off in February. We are overhauling our mothership, making sure everything is tip-top in preparation. Avid fishermen and novices seeking a rewarding #escape will love the abundance of fish in the Top End paradise. The mangrove creeks and estuaries come alive in February, teeming with juvenile prawns that attract a variety of prized fish species. These months are perfect for targeting barramundi, as well as black jewfish, golden snapper, cod, pikey bream, and mangrove jack—all drawn into the sheltered bays and creeks to feed on the abundance of prawns and small fish. The estuaries and creeks offer calm, sheltered waters for fishing. Whether you're pursuing a great catch or seeking a peaceful getaway, the Top End delivers the perfect balance of action and tranquillity. It's an ideal spot to take your friends, family or colleagues on an adventure. #TopEnd #FishingCharters

We are very excited to have come runners-up this year in the 41st Ladies Ribbon tournament, held on the 8th of Dec. Last year, we were the winners of the Ribbons Ladies Game Fishing Tournament in Cairns. This is a great result, with 21 boats competing. Yvette Maas caught her first Sailfish, while 16-year-old Skyla McShane, in the out-of-town angler category, caught her first Black Marlin and a Dolphin Fish. All fish were caught on the 10lk line class, tagged and released. #ladieswhofish #fishingQueensland #QueenslandGameFishingAssociation
