This week, Batterman volunteers were on hand at Riverside Park in Beloit to provide the heavy lifting and help "refresh" the well-loved Turtle Geoglyph. Artist Marina Lee first installed it in 2003 as part of the Riverfront improvements initiated by Beloit in 2000. This is the second time that team Batterman has assisted with refreshing the geoglyph, with the first refresh taking place in 2016. Here is some background on this piece of public art and why the turtle design was commissioned: The Turtle Geoglyph is a ground sculpture meant to be viewed from a higher elevation. It's a walkable sculpture that references the area's history with turtles and the Ho-Chunk people. The Beloit College campus is home to a turtle-shaped mound, one of 20 built by Native Americans between 400 and 1200 AD. The mounds are thought to be burial sites and may contain human remains. The turtle mound inspired the college's symbol and unofficial mascot. The Ho-Chunk people had a large village in the area called Ke-Chunk, which means "turtle village" in English. The village was located near the Rock River and Turtle Creek confluence, close to the Illinois-Wisconsin state line.

Yesterday was a very rewarding day for R.H. Batterman & Co., Inc.'s VP of Design, Todd Needham, and construction project manager, Ellyn Subak, as they had the opportunity to engage with the next generation of engineers at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville career fair. This was especially meaningful as they are UWP alumni themselves! As a bonus, they had the pleasure of personally meeting Gavin Pinnow, one of the 2024-2025 R.H. Batterman-UWP Scholarship recipients. #FutureEngineers

Look who’s celebrating his first anniversary with Batterman, Kieran Mandli! Celebrating the first-year milestone with recent engineering graduates is always a tremendous pleasure. We asked him about his experience thus far, and he had this to say: “It’s been a great first year here at Batterman. As an entry-level design engineer, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects. Time has gone by fast, and I have learned so much here in what feels like such a short time.” Kieran, we are grateful that you have chosen to begin your engineering career with the Batterman team. Thank you for your hard work over the past year. We are looking forward to many bright years together ahead!

Today, we recognize Carol Hall as she celebrates her second anniversary with R.H. Batterman & Co., Inc.! Carol is our top-notch accounting and payroll clerk and a key asset for our front-office team. She had the following to say about her first two years with Batterman: “Wow, two years already! I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude. They say time flies when you’re having fun, and it’s truly been a rewarding journey. While I may not have profound insights to share at this moment, I want to acknowledge how fortunate I feel to work alongside such a talented and dedicated group of individuals. The support and collaboration have made these two years incredibly enjoyable and fulfilling. Thank you for the opportunity to be part of this fantastic team.” Carol, we are so grateful that your experience and enthusiasm are part of our team! LOTS OF PROGRESS to observe as the roads and buildings continue to take shape on the Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood site! The concrete paving crews have completed mainline paving with the machine and moved on to placing curbs and gutters and pouring the sidewalk aprons. Grading and landscaping crews continue to do their part as well. Less visible progress has also been made in the placement of street lighting conduits and fiber optic conduits.
