  • CHECK OUT the most recent progress on the Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood site! The primary roads and sidewalks have been completed, and now the focus is on detailed work, such as constructing the terrace tree cells and placing the permeable brick pavers. In the coming days, the concrete crews will finish their work, the landscaping crews will continue placing the terrace trees and the general site restoration, and the electrical contractor will continue installing the street lighting conduit and pull boxes and pouring the light bases. Remarkable progress has also been made on the concurrent KIN projects. LakeView Technology Academy had its parking lot paved this past week, and the Kenosha Innovation Center's concrete floors are being poured, and the exterior walls are continuing to be erected. On Tuesday, October 8th, R.H. Batterman & Co., Inc. hosted the monthly Madison Area Surveyors Council meeting at our Janesville office. We were honored to join in fellowship and engaging conversation in our neck of the woods. Besides the business-as-usual items, Batterman staff presented updates from the Rock County Surveyor, Brad Heuer, about research and filing surveys, the new GIS mapping, and PLSS maintenance initiatives. We also shared the ongoing efforts that Batterman team members have engaged in this year to bring awareness and knowledge to the youth and community about the surveying profession. We look forward to future meetings and continuing our outreach efforts with the support and guidance from our fellow surveyors! #Surveyors

Congratulations to Geronimo Hospitality Group and everyone who collaborated on this incredible project! We're truly honored to be part of this amazing team. We look forward to joining you at downtown Beloit's newest entertainment venue!

  • We had a fantastic experience at this year's Dare to Dream - Building the Future Community Construction Zone event, engaging with bright young kids and teens interested in learning more about the construction industry. Visitors to our booth learned about the tools, knowledge, and skills used by our surveyors and civil engineers and how their jobs are essential for building vital infrastructure and better communities. Thank you to Hendricks CareerTek and CORPORATE CONTRACTORS INC (CCI) for creating this terrific event. We look forward to doing it again next year!

  • This week, Batterman volunteers were on hand at Riverside Park in Beloit to provide the heavy lifting and help "refresh" the well-loved Turtle Geoglyph. Artist Marina Lee first installed it in 2003 as part of the Riverfront improvements initiated by Beloit in 2000. This is the second time that team Batterman has assisted with refreshing the geoglyph, with the first refresh taking place in 2016.  Here is some background on this piece of public art and why the turtle design was commissioned: The Turtle Geoglyph is a ground sculpture meant to be viewed from a higher elevation. It's a walkable sculpture that references the area's history with turtles and the Ho-Chunk people. The Beloit College campus is home to a turtle-shaped mound, one of 20 built by Native Americans between 400 and 1200 AD. The mounds are thought to be burial sites and may contain human remains. The turtle mound inspired the college's symbol and unofficial mascot. The Ho-Chunk people had a large village in the area called Ke-Chunk, which means "turtle village" in English. The village was located near the Rock River and Turtle Creek confluence, close to the Illinois-Wisconsin state line.
