We're kicking butt for a cleaner, healthier community with the launch of "Breaking Butts," a new initiative led by #KeepBernCoBeautiful and District 2 Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada. This program tackles cigarette waste by placing special recycling receptacles throughout the county. Five out of six receptacles are already up, with more on the way! You'll spot them at key spots like UNM Hospital, Tiny Home Village, and UNM South Campus. Our public works team collects the butts and sends them to TerraCycle, where paper and tobacco are composted, and plastic filters become new products like hand tools and picnic benches. Smoking’s loss is sustainability’s gain! 🚭

Some places across the county have limited access to community resources, especially in Southeast Albuquerque. That’s why BernCo’s Mobile Rec Van brings them into the community, where they need to be. Our Mobile Rec Van is on a mission to spread smiles, connect families, and make sure every kid in the county has a safe place to play, grow, and thrive. Tune in as Bernalillo County Commissioner Adriann Barboa tells us all about it!
