#WorldMentalHealthDay is a good reminder of the importance of mental well-being in every aspect of our lives. Yet, loss remains a topic shrouded in silence and stigma. We often hear phrases like "time heals all wounds" or "stay strong," but rarely do we address the mental toll that grief takes. One day you're functioning; the next, a simple memory knocks you down. Anxiety tags along, filling your mind with "what ifs," while depression can drain your energy and joy. And don't forget about guilt. You feel guilty for things you said or didn't say, guilty for moments when you forget they're gone, or even guilty for feeling relief if their passing ended prolonged suffering. It doesn't make you a bad person; it makes you human. Physical symptoms like fatigue and aches? They're part of the package too. You might feel like isolating yourself because people just don't get it, but trust me, connection helps. I personally love how Nora McInerny shares her journey with loss. It’s hard to believe the first month of fall is already behind us! Our team has been on the go, attending National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization's annual meeting in Denver and the Texas Association for Home Care & Hospice event in Round Rock, and we loved connecting with so many incredible leaders in the hospice and home care space. We're feeling energized by the feedback we received and excited about the positive impact Betterleave can make in supporting families through their journeys. As we move forward, our thoughts are also with everyone affected by Hurricane Helene, and we extend our prayers to all those in recovery.
