Holzreste als Ressource für Elektroautos und grünen Wasserstoff Im EU-Projekt „BIOPYRANIA“ erforschen 13 Firmen und Forschungseinrichtungen, wie Holzreste als Rohstoff für nachhaltige Technologien genutzt werden können. Ziel ist die Entwicklung leichterer Bauteile für Elektroautos und Membranen zur Produktion von grünem Wasserstoff. Der Biotechnologe Professor Christoph Wittmann von der Universität des Saarlandes arbeitet gemeinsam mit Doktorandin Franka Janz, Doktorand Hagen von Strünck und Bioingenieur Dr. Michael Kohlstedt daran, das Bakterium Corynebacterium glutamicum so zu nutzen, dass es Holzbestandteile wie Zucker und Lignin in verwertbare Biobausteine umwandeln kann. Diese sollen später in der Industrie für Hochleistungskunststoffe eingesetzt werden. Das Projekt wird bis 2028 mit fünf Millionen Euro gefördert und soll die technische Machbarkeit einer CO2-neutralen Kreislaufwirtschaft demonstrieren.
