Our Birthright Israel Excel fellows have spent nearly every Friday on Kibbutz Re’im volunteering. They help residents of the Kibbutz clean up their gardens or assist with housework. Since Birthright Israel's inception, the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University has rigorously evaluated Birthright Israel’s impact on participants once they return home. ✨ Veronica, a Birthright Israel participant, shares a sneak peek of observing Shabbat during our classic 10-day trip. ✨ Shabbat is a core theme of our educational programming, with many groups spending at least one Shabbat in Jerusalem. Experiencing Shabbat in Israel offers young Jews a unique way to discover its meaning. On a Birthright Israel trip, participants explore Shabbat through community, learning, and spirituality. Each group engages in Kabbalat Shabbat, whether at a local synagogue, their hotel, or outdoors, embracing prayer, poetry, or special celebrations.
