"It's well past time to bring new talent and voices into the conservation movement, don't you think?" 👏🏾
As CEO of Bonsai Leadership Group, I help nonprofit organizations recruit and retain talented professionals. Author, "When Black Women Rise." 🌳
When I was in 6th grade, all us public school kids in Sacramento had the opportunity to stay at The Sly Park Environmental Education Center for an entire week. I'd never been there, although it was only an hour away. We learned about the trees, the land, and the animals that lived there. We told campfire stories at night. It was the first time most of us had been away from home without our parents, and we were able to bond with each other surrounded by a beautiful and healing setting. After that trip, I started to see nature differently. I learned what a deep immersion into nature could do for my soul. But it took MANY more years before realizing I could tie this love of nature into my nonprofit career by working in the environmental sector. Thank you Sussan García and Justice Outside for interviewing me for the Joy Outside podcast. We talked about my personal story and how it informs my work at Bonsai Leadership Group LLC, helping environmental nonprofits recruit, support and retain Black, Indigenous, and Leadership of Color. Because saying "Well, no people of color applied to this position!" is a cop-out. It’s well past time to bring new voices and talent into the conservation movement, don't you think? 🎧 Listen to the Joy Outside podcast here: https://lnkd.in/edvckYSV #EnvironmentalNonprofit #Conservation #BIPOCLeadership #Nature #Recruitment
