The leading soil carbon marketplace powered by AI and remote sensing technology | Earthshot Prize Winner '23

About us

Boomitra works with farmers and ranchers worldwide to increase soil carbon through improved agricultural practices and generate internationally certified carbon removal credits. We use proprietary AI and satellite technology to monitor, report, and verify (MRV) soil organic carbon to a 30cm+ depth, without physical soil sampling, reducing measurement costs by 99%. The process is cost-efficient, time effective, and scalable across various landholding sizes – enabling Boomitra to work globally: 5M+ acres, 150,000+ farmers, 4 continents, millions of credits sold to date. Boomitra sells the carbon credits to corporations and governments worldwide, enabling them to meet their sustainability goals. Farmers and landowners earn the vast majority of proceeds from each carbon credit sold, allowing them to re-invest in their farms and local communities. Boomitra means “Friend of the Earth” in Sanskrit. That is who we are and hope to inspire others to be. Learn more at boomitra.com

Last Wednesday, we hosted our first webinar, joined by a stellar expert panel--Cool Effect's Jodi Manning, Climate Collective's Anna Lerner Nesbitt, and bpʻs Utkarsh Agarwal—and moderator, Isabella Corpora from Carbon Business Council. Our speakers shared invaluable advice throughout the webinar. 🌟 “Even if you have just started counting your emissions and you feel overwhelmed by it, I guarantee if you start this year, it’ll get better next year and it’ll get more accurate every year you do it… It’s really important to drink from the cup and not the fire hose and really just start somewhere.” – Jodi Manning, CEO, Cool Effect 🌤 “Pick and mix something that is inspiring and feels aligned with your corporate priorities.” – Anna Lerner Nesbitt, CEO, Climate Collective 🌔 “We need all of the above for a fighting chance to keep temperature rise below 1.5 or 2 degrees. We need to incentivize the protection of tropical forests in Brazil and subsidize the distribution of cookstoves and water filters in Guatemala and Vietnam. We need to capture methane from landfills and industrial facilities. We need to destroy ozone depleting substances that disproportionately have a higher greenhouse gas warming potential and therefore contribute to the greenhouse gas effect. We also need to invest in reforestation of degraded lands and implanting of mangroves and we need to incentivize farmers and ranchers to sequester more carbon in the soil. And equally, we need to scale engineered technologies that work… Every ton of carbon removed or reduced makes a difference.” – Uti Agarwal, Americas Carbon Originator, BP Inspired by their insights, we’ve created a guide for new carbon credit buyers. This resource covers the essentials of purchasing high-quality credits, so you can make informed choices that drive real climate action. Access our guide: https://lnkd.in/g_5ESB4E

In Patagonia, climate change is worsening droughts, which have already halved the number of sheep ranches can support.   With our partner OZONO, led by fourth-generation rancher Catalina Saenz, we are helping sheep farmers across Patagonia switch to regenerative practices that foster resilience and restoration. OZONO is also supporting women ranchers, helping them join a profession traditionally run by men.   “The only thing the producer wants is to stay a producer,” Catalina notes. “They don’t want to give up. They need solutions, but they don’t have them. So when I start to talk about regenerative practices, they start to have hope in the ability to keep producing... It’s something really important for the people here.”   When we remove barriers to entry and provide regional capacity building, regenerative ranching can be a tool for social, ecological, and economic change. This work wouldn't be possible without our amazing implementation partners, whose localized knowledge and community networks allow Boomitra to scale our work.   Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gc8kRgiM

The UNEP’s 2024 Emissions Gap Report just came out. The clock is ticking on climate action, but there is still time!   Humanity emitted 57.1 GtCO₂e in 2023, and unless global emissions are reduced beyond current policies and National Determined Contributions (NDCs) by 2030, it will be impossible to stay on the 1.5°C pathway without overshooting. Even the 2°C target becomes significantly harder to achieve under current conditions.   Agricultural sequestration holds enormous potential in the fight against climate change. The UNEP report estimates that it can sequester 1.4 gigatons of carbon per year by 2030 and 2 gigatons per year by 2035.   At Boomitra, we are committed to scaling agricultural carbon sequestration solutions through regenerative farming and soil carbon credits. These solutions not only draw down carbon but also support farmers, enhance food security, and build climate resilience.   It’s time to align climate policies with ambition and invest in carbon solutions like soil carbon to narrow the emissions gap. Together, we can create a more sustainable future.   Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/eN68Wmwp    Thanks UN Environment Programme for the graphic, which is Figure ES.4 from the report   #ClimateAction #UNEP #EmissionsGap #RegenerativeAgriculture #SoilCarbon #Sustainability #NetZero

For the next few weeks, our team of soil scientists—our Carbon Hackers—are taking over LinkedIn to share a #tipoftheweek.     Today’s tip: soils "speak” through their colors.   Colors reveal soil composition and processes. Red soil means there are iron oxides, dark soils mean there is a lot of organic matter, and blue or greenish soils indicate waterlogged conditions. 📱 At Boomitra, we give farmers the information they need to read their land, from evaluating soil color to using our Boomitra farmer app.    👇 What’s your favorite sign of healthy soil? Comment below!     Learn more about Boomitra’s Carbon Hackers: https://lnkd.in/gpAZTnfe Thanks to the Art of Soil on Instagram for photo permissions!

🌾 The desire for increased yields is driving farmers across the world to adopt sustainable agriculture   🐑 McKinsey & Company’s Global Farmer Insights report revealed that the primary motivation for farmers switching practices worldwide is improved productivity.   🐛 When you farm sustainably, using methods like no-till and intensive grazing, you heal soils. Healthier soils are more resilient and more productive than degraded, dry, or thin soils.   🌱Productivity, efficiency, and resilience go hand-in-hand with sustainability. At Boomitra, this ethos underpins our business. We believe that by helping farmers switch to sustainable practices, everyone can win: from farmers to investors to consumers. Healthy soils are a win for all.   Learn more about our work: https://lnkd.in/guHuFnyB   Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/gGTinBBR

Boomitra’s East Africa team members Ann Maina and Collins Oranga joined Mercy Corps AgriFin for some Agri-Finance Group Discussions.     Experts came together to solve one of the great agriculture challenges: how can we better support smallholder farmers and bring agri-finance to them?     Collins and Ann walked away from this event with key takeaways:   💻 #Fintech is necessary to scale agri-finance sustainably   ✅ There is a thriving rural economy: the task at-hand is to amplify that  👩🌾 Women and youth need to have a seat at the table 🤝 Collaboration between farmers, partners, and other stakeholders is crucial   🧠 #AI can provide the capacity to solve the problems that algorithms cannot    At Boomitra, we’re leveraging the power of AI and remote sensing tech to bring carbon markets to smallholder farmers. They do a lot of land stewardship work and, by converting to regenerative practices, can sequester gigatons of carbon: let’s reward that!     Learn more about Boomitra’s award-winning soil carbon credits: https://lnkd.in/gyQiN7mi
