How many wines should you pitch in one sitting? After years of trial and error, I came up with my own magic number. Turns out, I have the best success rate with wine buyers when I present 4 wines at a time. Here are 4 reasons why: 1️⃣ “The paradox of choice”: fewer options increase sales. Presenting 4 wines shows that I curated a good range while being purposeful and not overwhelming. 2️⃣ Presenting 4 wines takes me between 5-10 min of talking. I feel that I can help my customers better if I LISTEN more than I TALK. 3️⃣ If I bring fewer wines, it seems like the buyer thinks they compete against each other and they have to pick ONE. When my goal is for them to pick them all ! 4️⃣ Which brings me to my last point: I try to make sure the wines complement each other so that there’s a chance for the buyer to pick them all. It’s tough with more than 4 wines. Bottle Studio is the tool I created and use to curate my mini price lists. The number 4 is obviously subjective, and I’m sure some of you have other strategies that work better for them. Let me hear them! One thing I’m adamant about is being respectful of the buyer's time ⏱️ #wineindustry #wine #bevtech #AI

Last week, I applied for a grant for Bottle Studio. Here is part of the pitch. How’d I do? “For the past 12 years, I have been promoting French wines abroad, sharing our terroirs and savoir-faire with people around the world. Without bias, one could attest that French wines are among the best in the World. However, every day I face the same challenges when pitching wines: ❌The presentation of the wines does not match their quality.  ❌The sales materials are outdated, poorly translated. Simply not enticing. In short: we have a marketing problem. To be fair, the lack of marketing is not unique to French winegrowers. It is a problem that affects most small businesses. It is exacerbated in the wine industry, which consists of thousands of small businesses on both the production and distribution sides. With limited resources, creating and updating wine presentations, in multiple languages, for each vintage can be a daunting task, which ends up on the back burner. However, good presentation should be a priority. Most buyers first contact with wine is through a PDF: the technical sheet or catalog. A wine can be exceptional but if the presentation is bad, it reflects poorly on the product and the buyer might pass. 💡Today, AI can get us out of this conundrum by becoming the marketing assistant that the wine world needs. That’s why we created Bottle Studio. Now, with Bottle Studio, users can create, translate, and reformat technical sheets and price lists with a single click—features that wine importers and distributors love. In the future, you’ll be able to create photos, videos, labels, back labels, and more. Everything a professional needs to present wines. In a world where we shop both physically and online, the wine industry must bridge the gap between what’s in the bottle and how we present it”. Thank you Académie Amorim for the opportunity 🙏 #wine #wineindustry #bevtech #AI

I've worked with all kinds of wine distributors. I even had my own distributor license at one point. I can attest to one thing: being a wine distributor is tough. I should clarify: being a SMALL wine distributor is tough. It's a lot of risks, logistical headaches, a lot of paperwork with NOT a lot of cash flow. Why do they do it? Small wine importers and distributors are often passionate. They bring in small boutique wineries. Without them, we wouldn't have access to these gems. They connect with wine producers on a deeper level, as they share the same hustle: the small business experience. Doing more with less. Besides the passion and the products, there is a real place for small wine distributors in any market. - They’re agile. - They can take bets on new products. - They provide custom service to their clients. In short: they provide the products and services that BIG wine distributors can't fulfill, and that "niche" can be very lucrative. I've always respected hustlers and small business grit. That's why we built Bottle Studio with small wine businesses in mind. We want to give superpowers to small producers and small distributors alike. #wineindustry #wine #bevtech

My first year in the US as a wine export manager, I was chasing after unicorns. I thought that if I could get my wines listed with a BIG distributor, with hundreds of sales reps, they would sell it ALL, buy thousands of cases – and I would be all SET. When it eventually happened, it was disappointing. - The initial order was small. - The process to list the wines was slow. - The sales reps were busy selling big brands and didn’t care about our wines. - They asked us to participate in expensive incentive programs which had no impact on depletions. In the meantime, my small boutique distributors were each ordering (and selling) five times more. I quickly learned that size doesn’t matter. What matters is the fit. Now, I ask myself: Are these wines going to make a difference for this distributor? If the answer is unclear, it’s probably not a good fit. My preference is often to work with small but mighty distributors. I’m pleased to see more and more of them using Bottle Studio and hope we can help them operate even faster. #wineindustry #export #bevtech #AI

Here are the 5 rules for success when pitching wines to prospects and customers: 1. Follow up 2. Follow up 3. Follow up 4. Follow up 5. Follow up Why? Study shows that 80% of sales require 5x follow ups after the first meeting. Yet, 44% of sales reps bail after just 1. How many missed opportunities… But if your original email was a Frankenstein - with 14 attachments, including 12 pdf tech sheets and 2 excel price lists - it’s possible that part of your offer got lost after the second follow up. With Bottle Studio, you can condense your offer to one link in your email, that includes: - Tech sheets - Bottle shots - Prices It makes it easier to pitch multiple wines at once, stay organized and keep your pitch sharp and clean. The rest is tenacity. #wineindustry #bevtech #wine

The hard truth I quickly learned as a wine export manager is that your importers do not really care about your wines. Let me explain: unless you’re selling exceptionally rare wines, there are literally a thousand similar offerings out there. Same region, same price point, similar label. Today, buyers can source anything from anywhere, in a couple clicks. Buyers are not looking for access. Buyers are looking for service. The real job of a wine export manager is to add value on top of what the wines already deliver: ✅ By providing expertise: on your region, on your buyers’ market, on the logistics of bringing wines in and depleting them effectively. ✅ By providing clarity: understanding buyers’ needs and curating offers that truly benefit them. ✅ By providing support: with training and sales materials that can help them pitch faster to their customers. On the latter, Bottle Studio can help with instantly creating sales materials in buyers’ languages, shelf talkers and more. Hope this can help. #wineindustry #wineexport #bevtech #AI

Half of the Internet is in English - and that number is dropping rapidly. In May 2023, 55.5% of online content was in English. By March 2024, it fell to 50.8% (source: w3techs survey). What’s more, English only serves about 16% of the global population, and people generally prefer to consume content in their native language. I’m always surprised to see that most Chinese wine e-commerce websites use wine descriptions in… English. Not the best experience for Chinese wine drinkers. I get why though: one of the biggest challenges we face in the wine industry is to collect information about the wines we sell. It’s even more challenging for the wine professionals who have to collect AND translate this information into the language of their market.  💡Bottle Studio uses 4 different AI models to power instant translation of wine tech sheets - properly translating the “poetic” terminology of wine into 9 languages and more to come! ✅ Save time: quickly translate and start pitching. ✅ Be a hero: help out your customers with content in their native language. Try it out and let me know what you think! #wineindustry #winetech #bevtech #AI #wine

A lot of people are talking about how ARCHAIC the wine industry is. It is true - but I also see big changes on the horizon. 2 reasons why the wine industry is old school: 1 - It is fragmented and consists of thousands of small companies who often lack the resources necessary to adopt new technologies. 2 - “Wine business” often rhymes with “family business” - which is great for the most part, but sometimes we tend to follow in the steps of our ancestors and stick to what works (or what worked), and do not go for disruption. --- 2 reasons why it's about to change: 1 - There is a change of guard. New generations of millennials and digital natives are taking over wine businesses and understand that technology is not a “nice-to-have” but a “must-have”. 2 - There are a lot of companies springing up in the “BevTech” industry. Since we started Bottle Studio, I have met so many interesting people that are bringing innovation to our industry. All these people really care about wine and aim to move the industry forward. That’s why we’re thrilled that Bottle Studio is now part of La WineTech, a collective that is trying to regroup all these actors. The wine industry is not going to change overnight, it’s going to take some time, but the future is bright. Am I overly optimistic? #wineindustry #winetech #AI #bevtech #wine
