🎉 I'm thrilled to share that our newly hired Bottom Line Advising team is poised to make a tremendous impact on degree-aspiring students across the Greater Dayton area and beyond. The team will soon be engaging with students, guiding them through their educational journeys, and empowering them to turn their dreams into reality. We’ve just returned from an inspiring week in 🗽NYC, where the team fully immersed themselves in the Bottom Line mission. They sharpened their skills with best practices and forged some phenomenal connections. I’m incredibly proud to serve as their Director and can’t wait to witness the extraordinary ways they’ll help shape the futures of our next generation of leaders. A heartfelt thank you to the Bottom Line New York team for your outstanding hospitality! Your efforts have set a powerful foundation for our work ahead, and we look forward to building on the strong connections we made during our time together. One of my favorite aspects of my job this time of year is catching up with students who have had summer internships. Today, I celebrate Bottom Line student Daniela Baez, a rising senior at BU, who spent her summer interning with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security through the Department of Corrections at Boston Pre-Release within the School of Re-Entry. I am so grateful to organizations and companies that offer our students such important and impactful career experiences.   From Daniela: "It has been an incredibly enlightening experience. I have gained valuable insights into the criminal justice system, particularly regarding incarceration and the process of rehabilitation for successful reentry into society. My experience has encompassed various aspects of this process, including classification, education, work-release, recreational and psychological programming, parole hearings, re-entry services, etc. I have observed firsthand how the School of Re-Entry supports individuals through comprehensive educational opportunities and aids in re-entry services, providing crucial resources for their successful reintegration. Engaging directly with the students has allowed me to witness their progress and commitment to their own transformation. Additionally, I have seen both the strengths and challenges within the system. When one area fails to meet its objectives, it can profoundly impact the incarcerated individuals and their rehabilitation journey. Working alongside the EOPSS staff has been a particularly valuable part of my experience, as their dedication and support have enriched my learning and deepened my understanding of the field. This experience has reinforced my long-held commitment to pursuing a career in this area. I am passionate about making a meaningful difference and supporting returning citizens in their journey toward successful reentry into society." Wrapping Up My Internship at Bottom Line! 😊 Today marks the end of my internship at Bottom Line, and I just want to say a few thank-yous. I would like to first thank my supervisor, Megan McDonough, for all the support and guidance. I’ve gained helpful advice from you, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to work at Bottom Line, especially coming from a Bottom Line student. Big thanks to my colleague, Katia Lokhanova! It’s been great working with you, and I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. Wishing you all the best in your academic journey and future career! And of course, thanks to everyone at Bottom Line for being so welcoming and helpful. This experience has been better than I could’ve hoped for. I'm excited to take on what I have gained from this internship and bring it on to my future career!

Congratulations to Bottom Line student Chiruza Muhimuzi for an outstanding experience as an intern this summer at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Chiruza worked in the supply chain logistics department. He credits his experience working in labs with giving him insight into lab operations. He had great mentorship and loved the opportunity to leverage his scientific knowledge to develop new skills in the business and operations side of the industry.

Big News! Bottom Line is expanding to Metro Detroit in the fall of 2025! This marks a significant milestone in our mission to partner with degree-aspiring, first-generation students to not only get into college, but also graduate, and launch successful careers. "We are incredibly excited about Bottom Line’s expansion into Michigan and Detroit,” said Ryan Fewins-Bliss, Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) Executive Director. “The data is clear: to increase the numbers of students going to and succeeding in college, more trained and caring individuals must be dispatched to support students and families. Working alongside the resources that currently exist, Bottom Line is a great addition to the community. We look forward to working closely with them." Our CEO Steve Colón weighed in on yesterday’s announcement from the Department of Education that this year’s FAFSA will be released on December 1st. “If we have to make a trade off and we have to push back Oct. 1 to get a fully functioning system, that’s a trade we’re willing to make. What we really need is clarity and transparency around timing so we can make a plan.” For Bottom Line, and as a member of the National College Attainment Network (NCAN) students being able to access a reliable system is most important. On August 1st, Bottom Line Chicago’s Emerging Leaders Council hosted its first Sip and Support networking event, marking our first in-person gathering in over four years. The evening was a resounding success, bringing together a vibrant community of early to mid-career professionals passionate about elevating their social impact and supporting Bottom Line's mission of supporting first-generation students on their path to a college degree. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about Bottom Line’s impactful work, network with like-minded individuals, and explore ways to contribute to our mission. Huge shoutout to our relentless ELC members: Angela P., Isaiah Anderson Hanna Skinner, Ken Leng, Desiree Johnson, and a big thanks to Revolution Brewing for the beverages!
