World Stroke Day (October 29th) also serves as a timely reminder of the increased risk of stroke among people living with atrial fibrillation (AFib or AF). An estimated seven million Americans are estimated to be affected by AF – an irregular heartbeat that can feel like a quivering heart. People with AF have a five times greater risk of stroke than those with normal heart rhythms. Boulder Heart is proud to offer patients the WATCHMAN FLX™ Pro Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC) Device, the only FDA-approved implant proven to reduce stroke risk in people with atrial fibrillation (AFIB) that is not caused by a heart valve problem. Boulder Heart's cardiac specialists - led by Srinivas Iyengar, MD, one of Colorado's most experienced WATCHMAN physicians with a 100% success rate - are the only team providing this innovative, minimally invasive procedure in Boulder County, at Foothills Hospital in Boulder. The WATCHMAN FLX device closes off an area of the heart called the left atrial appendage (LAA) to keep harmful blood clots that can form in the LAA from entering the blood stream and potentially causing a stroke. By closing off the LAA, the risk of stroke may be reduced and, over time, patients may be able to stop taking their blood thinner. The latest-generation technology has a new design to help treat more patients safely and effectively to ensure the best long-term outcomes. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/g_WeiNtZ

This morning, we unveiled a beautiful tribute to the exceptional care provided by our BCH caregivers, the new BCH Foundation Tree of Life. Each engraved leaf serves as a lasting memorial to honor caregivers, commemorate loved ones, or celebrate those who bring hope and healing. A limited number of leaves are available at four donation levels, with new leaves installed quarterly. Jaime Tellez-Gonzalez who received a cornea transplant at the age of 7 shared his appreciation for the gift of sight with nurses at Boulder Community Health. He expressed appreciation for the work they do. The staff responded with thanks since they don’t often get to see or hear first-hand accounts of outcomes from their work to facilitate eye tissue donation. #RestoreSight #DonateLife #EyeBank #CorneaDonation #CorneaTransplant #CommunityImpact #transplantrecipient

Late last month, BCH’s Foothills Hospital performed the 200th WATCHMAN procedure. Experienced interventional cardiologist Srinivas Iyengar, MD and his Structural Heart & Valve team, including Molly Ware, MD, performed the milestone procedure and successfully implanted the WATCHMAN FLX Pro™ Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC) Device. Dr. Iyengar – Boulder Heart’s Director of Structural Heart & Interventional Cardiology – has a 100% WATCHMAN success rate. This FDA-approved implant is designed to deduce stroke risk and serve as an alternative to the lifelong use of blood thinners for people with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem (also known as non-valvular AF). To learn more about WATCHMAN, go to bch.org/watchman Congrats to Drs. Iyengar and Ware and the Structural Heart/Cath Lab teams! #boulderheart #bouldercommunityhealth #watchman
