It's always fun to see projects you've been working on get a shout out in the local news. I'm working on the replacement of the existing Elevators and Escalators at the Sound Transit International District Light Rail Station. This is the first of many planned vertical transportation modernization projects for Sound Transit. We've been in the planning and material ordering stage for months but broke ground the last week of October starting the first of four phases. I'm looking forward to working with Sound Transit, Schindler Elevator Corporation (U.S.), Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, Prime Electric, Holmberg Mechanical, Long Painting Company, Albireo Energy Pacific Northwest Division, SCHONERT & ASSOCIATES, INC., J&S masonry, OAC Services, Inc. and WSP on this project.

I've seen Waterfall Countertops before but this Live Edge Table with a waterfall design incorporated into it is amazing! Thanks to Tacoma Rising for putting together a tour of Wane+Flitch Urban Saw Mill and Wood Shop! We got to see the stages where raw logs are milled, dried, kiln dried, planed, sanded, polished, stained and epoxy'd with incredible artistry. Such a cool Tacoma based company. Check out Wane+Flitch and follow Tacoma Rising for networking and keeping up with what's happening in Tacoma. #tacoma #networking #liveedgetables #woodworking

Of all the projects I've worked on this year, this was probably the most challenging and fun. One of my great clients, Leroy Newton Construction LLC., brought me on board to help with preconstruction and planning of this project. Leroy Newton is an experienced structural concrete company but this was their first tilt up building. I got to be a part of the panel design coordination, panel fabrication layout, crane and tilt-up planning, collaborative re-design of the slab-on-grade and more. There were a several challenges to this project that we had to work through including: - The footprint of the building was relatively small for a tilt-up building which required us to cast panels on the slab and then cast a second set of panels on top of the first set. We essentially had to play Tetris with all the different panel sizes and shapes to cast all the panels. Additionally, we had to be strategic about which panels went on top to ensure the sequencing was correct. In the video, you might notice that the crane picked two panels from the same location before moving to the next pair. - The original slab could not support the 300 ton crane that was used to pick the tilt panels. I worked closely with NessCampbell Crane + Rigging to convey crane loading information to Coughlin Porter Lundeen to redesign the slab with Abbott Construction providing input on all other aspects of the slab that had to be accounted for. - Through coordination with Abbott Construction, we stood a panel up outside of the building footprint to be installed later. By leaving out the closure panel, the structural steel erector has better access into and out of the building. Once their work is complete, the last panel will be installed. I'd like to thank Leroy Newton Construction LLC. for allowing me to work on this project for them. And thanks Melissa Teichman for posting this great time lapse video!
Sharing a timelapse of our tilt up panels last week in Port Townsend at the Jefferson Healthcare expansion. OAC Services, Inc. is so honored to work with this amazing client Jefferson Healthcare to add more than 56,000sf of services, including MRI, Vascular Ultrasound, Radiation Oncology, Linear Accelerator and Simulation CT, expand outpatient surgery with new operating rooms, speciality clinics, support services, facilities and BioMed, new kitchen and dining spaces, and upgraded EV parking. What a difference this is going to make in the community of Port Townsend! Special thanks to our Progressive Design-Build partners Abbott Construction, ZGF Architects, and our MEPS engineering, testing, and commissioning partners Säzän Group Inc., Coughlin Porter Lundeen, Site Workshop Landscape Architecture, Hermanson Company, STIRRETT JOHNSEN, INC., Prime Electric, The Riley Group, Inc., Krazan & Associates, Inc., and EEI. #DesignBuild #AlternativeDelivery #communityhealthcare
