“𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱”...
Yes, this is another football related post. Sorry, but it’s too good not to tell. This time, my team won the game - however the story here isn’t about the outcome on the field, it’s about the generosity of Texas Exes & Longhorns across the country before the game even kicked off.
Here was the situation - a number of Texas Exes found themselves unable to make the trip to Atlanta to watch the Peach Bowl. Instead of selling their tickets, they decided to donate them and send kids/families/staff from local Atlanta area non-profits to the game, free of charge. 68 donated tickets in total… mostly in batches of two and four. This wasn’t some big corporate block of tickets… these were individual Longhorns all making individual decisions to start the new year off generously.
Little did the 68 ticket recipients know, they were in for an instant classic.
Maybe we made a few new University of Texas fans (it’s a hard thing to do in Bulldog country). Maybe we inspired someone to attend UT and be a future Texas Ex. Maybe just maybe when these kids are older they’ll look back at the memory of this game, will be reminded of the kindness of strangers, and decide to pay it forward. No matter what, it was a win on and off the field this week.
A motto of The University of Texas at Austin is “what starts here changes the world”… this time around, maybe just with a simple act of kindness, two or four donated tickets at a time, we changed someone’s world.
