I'm the dummy who shared all my previous salaries on LinkedIn a couple years ago. I publicly share my salary information because it helps people see that they're underpaid and that it's truly possible to get huge salary increases from learning skills online and from job hopping. As a reminder, I DO NOT recommend that you share your salaries publicly. Companies will use this information against you to give you as little money as possible. I'm able to do it because I'm now employed by my own business. So what do I pay myself now? Whatever is left after paying my employees and business expenses!

I wrote this article with Business Insider to urge people to consider tech jobs at non-tech companies, *especially* at entry level or when you're changing careers. Non-tech companies hire tech roles, and they're less competitive, still pay great, and you're shielded from the mass layoffs that plague big tech companies like Meta and Tesla. Check out the article for my personal story and my tips and tricks for breaking into tech at non-tech companies 🥰 Thank you Jane Zhang! #careertips #tech #nontech https://lnkd.in/edeQw9DU

I became a data analyst and grew my salary 5x without working in Big Tech. Non-tech companies offer more flexibility and less stress.

    -- SQL-Tableau-- /*Background in Health Sciences*/ I don't just see data... I see people.

Charlotte Chaze's fantastic course also covers Tableau, which brings those SQL queries to life in the form of data visualizations. I'm so happy I completed this course!

  • Do Not Disturb isn't enough. Fully turn off those devices!

DO NOT touch your work devices on weekends or during PTO. If you look at a work device, you'll see an email or a message, and it's going to be quick and easy to respond. But the person who sent it *is* currently working, so they're going to reply right back, and suddenly you're working on your day off. It's never just one quick thing! Last time I took a day off, I got messages from a few people who didn't think I'd reply until I came back. But when I had a minute, I replied anyway, and that turned into conversations and requests. No one expected me to get right back to them, but when there's a quick thing that someone needs, it helps my anxiety to just get it done instead of scheduling it for the next day. No one was expecting me to work, but I found myself working! How do we fix this? 1. Try not to message people when you know they're off. If they see it, they might feel obligated to respond (or guilty if they don't). 2. When you're off, don't work! PERIOD! Not even a peek! #timeoff #pto

  • And instead of "show up and don't leave until they offer you the job"... show up on LinkedIn until it starts showing your profile to recruiters

𝗗𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲. First impressions are digital now. When a recruiter searches for someone to fill a data analyst role, they're searching for someone who already has "data analyst" all over their profile (even at entry level). Here's how to make sure you appear in their search results. Fill each of these sections with relevant keywords for the job you *want*: Headline About Experience Education Licenses & Certifications Skills 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙛 𝙄'𝙢 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙖 𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙨𝙩? If you've done data analytics projects, you're a data analyst. Now we just need someone to pay you for it, so make sure your LinkedIn reflects all the projects you've done and skills you've learned. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙛 𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣'𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨? Do some projects! There are endless free resources on the internet. My free course is on my website (click the link at the top of this post), and I know you know how to Google if you want something else. Luck is where opportunity meets preparation. Do the prep so you can get lucky when an opportunity comes along! #LinkedIntips

  • Never say "aspiring" in your LinkedIn headline!

If you've done data analytics projects, you're not an "aspiring data analyst"... You ARE a data analyst. The next step is to start getting paid for it instead of doing it for free. Make sure your LinkedIn headline accurately reflects your skills - take out the word "aspiring". Own your experience and take pride in the fact that you spent your time learning new skills. Most people don't do that, and it's impressive. #linkedintips #linkedinheadline

  • If your company doesn't reward you for loyalty, don't give it to them for free.

JOB HOP if you're not getting consistent raises and promotions. Every year you should at *least* be getting a 2-3% raise. Every couple years you should at *least* be considered for a promotion (often you will have to apply for it to be considered so make sure you're doing that). Otherwise you're getting paid LESS every year due to inflation. So if your company doesn't reward loyalty, don't give them loyalty. Getting the same exact job at a different company can get you a ~10% raise. Getting a promotion at a different company can get you a ~20% raise. Learning in-demand skills first and THEN job hopping can get you a life changing raise. By not going for more money right now, you're not just losing out on this year's potential bigger salary. You're also limiting how fast and how big your salary can grow in the future. This is your life, your comfort, your retirement. Go for it! #careergrowth #workersrights #jophopping
