Did someone say Blue Zones combo?! How d'Lite-ful! 💙 All puns aside, we had a fantastic time at the ribbon cutting celebration at d'Lite at their Ancala location in North Scottsdale surrounded by good vibes and great food! Special shoutout to d'Lite for introducing their new Blue Zones-inspired dishes—like the Humanitarian Wrap with hummus, packed with protein, fiber, and absolute deliciousness. It’s officially our new favorite! A big THANK YOU to our incredible Places Team Danielle Anderson, M.Ed., RDN Kristin Bio MS, RDN and Terra M. for their tenacity and dedication in making this milestone happen. d'Lite is the first restaurant to achieve multi-location approval, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s next! 💙 #BlueZonesProject #HealthyLiving #dLite #Celebration

I have an appreciation for centenarians. It's almost as if I look at them as celebrities and when I have an opportunity to meet them, talk with them, listen to their life stories and words of wisdom, I become a better person. Dr. Gladys McGarey was no exception. She wrote a beautiful book called The Well-Lived Life at 102 years young. Dr. Gladys passed away on Saturday, September 28. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I would have never even known that Dr. Gladys was a local centenarian in Scottsdale if it weren't for my Blue Zones work. As Dr. Gladys wrote in The Well-Lived Life: "living with purpose can actually help us live longer - and better. And the joy it brings to our lives will ripple out to the world around us." Dr. Gladys certainly touched my heart and fortunately, we have her lovely book and this interview with our Blue Zones founder, Dan Buettner for the world to see how we can all embrace her mantra of "Be Glad" and continue to spread her love, wisdom, and joy across the world. By sharing, I know I am helping to ensure that Dr. Gladys' legacy lives on to inspire and transform lives for the better. https://lnkd.in/gbZU5n_J
Dan Buettner on Instagram: "WISEST CENTENARIAN YOU’Ll EVER MEET. 103-year old Gladys McGarey @begladmd shares a century of wisdom here. Among her pearls: — Don’t try to get over your hardships, live through them and learn from them. — Be vigilant of the Angels in the Flesh all around us. — Pay attention to the Old People end the Little People — Old People in American have been: “Medicated into Foo

Since I started working at Blue Zones Project - Scottsdale people often ask if I changed my diet. In short answer, yes. I am way more intentional about paying attention to what I am eating and also what our family eats. I am the one who does the grocery shopping which means I am selective on which items I “accidentally” forget to buy. With that said, I was also bad at breakfast. I was a cup of coffee only gal and now my life hack is to prepare a batch of steel cut oats with oat milk in the little crock pot over night on low. Each day I add a different topping. I still have my coffee (and a little hazelnut creamer). I also used to sit in front of my computer in the morning to drink that coffee. I now try to sit at the table and sneak in a few pages of one of the many books I have been wanting to read. So friends, Blue Zones lifestyle is so much more than diet. It is a complete shift of mindset and outlook too. I have had so much self-reflection in a short time that I understand that the old me strived for perfection, the present day me is learning and growing everyday, which means the future me is going to be happier and healthier. On the outside, people may not see a huge transformation because of Blue Zones, but my transformation story runs a whole lot deeper. I hope these stories are what inspires our community and others to join in as we stack hands for a better tomorrow for our human sustainability. 💙

Todd LaPorte, CEO of HonorHealth and one of Blue Zones Project Scottsdale's valued community sponsors, recently shared his personal transformation story. After suffering a heart attack, Todd embraced a new way of living, focusing on his health and well-being. During his interview, Todd was open and vulnerable about his journey, showing us how crucial it is to prioritize wellness, especially with the support of a community. Todd’s story is a powerful reminder that incorporating healthy habits is easier when done together, and having support along the way is essential. We had a wonderful time at the HonorHealth Foundation Nourish and Flourish event, where we learned from experts about key pillars for living better, longer. Shad Marvasti, MD, MPH highlighted how maintaining health through the life course is essential for longevity and preventing disease, emphasizing integrative medicine as a vital tool. Justin D. Smith, CFA®, CFP® of Savant Wealth Management shared insights on donation tax strategies and why tax-advantaged approaches are critical for financial health. Trevor Whiting white from Dana Whiting Law spoke about the importance of retirement planning, creating a trust, and establishing medical directives. At Blue Zones Project Scottsdale, we believe that true longevity comes from aligning all aspects of life—health, finances, and planning for the future. It’s not always easy to talk about, but essential for living better and longer. Thanks HonorHealth for hosting a great event!!
