  • We would like to thank District 1 City Councilman Tyler Bowen for his commitment of $37,000 in American Rescue Act Plan (ARPA) funds for equipment that helps determine the nutritional needs of patients at Hoops Family Children’s Hospital. “COVID-19 exposed the importance of advancements in critical-care processes,” Bowen said. “With community partners like the MHN Foundations, the leadership of Cabell Huntington Hospital and the dedication of individuals like Clinical Nutrition Manager Jessica Runyon and her amazing team of dietitians, I am confident that the equipment purchased with this allocation will greatly improve outcomes for so many patients from across our region.” We are grateful for our local leaders and the community support they provide to our health care community!

  • Andrea Criss, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, NPD-BC, Director of Nursing Medical/Surgical at Cabell Huntington Hospital, attended the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) Annual Convention in Toronto, Canada on Sept. 12-14. She presented “The Journey to High Reliability: The use of Remote Video Monitoring to Prevent Falls - An Update." Cabell Huntington Hospital has seen success in decreasing falls by utilizing a virtual platform to watch patients who are at a high risk for falls. During the second year of implementation, our hospital saw a decrease in their fall rate per 1000 patient days from 2.44 to 2.38. There was also a decrease in the injury rate per 1000 patient days.
