Cape Cod Baseball League

“If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Everyday, I fall more in love with my internship with the Cape Cod Baseball League. Working on Beaches and Ballfields has been one of the most rewarding opportunities of my professional career. My typical curriculum does not always coincide with media based projects, but it is one of my passions. It has afforded me the chance to combine my business experience with on-air productions this summer. I have learned so much from my team of coworkers, and cannot wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store. This past weekend, I had the opportunity to go behind the scenes of a small town Fourth of July parade. Attending one has always been a bucket list event, and it was incredible to walk with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, and produce a special edition episode of the show. As the Public Relations Intern for the Cape Cod Baseball League, I was honored to be the head point person for the league’s annual workout and media day at Fenway Park on Monday. I had the opportunity to set up the media day from scratch. After doing initial research on Cape League players and coaches, I updated our media lists, crafted the media advisory, pitched to Boston media, arranged an RSVP list and sent it to the Red Sox security ahead of the event. On Fenway Day, I was in charge of meeting each media member at the media entrance, welcoming them to the event and managing media relations between players, coaches, league officials and the media. As the league’s only public relations person on site, I am proud of the coverage we received from outlets such as NESN, Baseball Isn’t Boring, WBZ | CBS Boston, Boston Herald and Boston Globe Media. Being able to organize and run an event such as Fenway Day has reminded me how grateful I am to attend one of the best Communication/ PR schools in the Country, Klein College of Media and Communication. Attending Temple University has taught me how to overcome adversity. I want to thank my professors and mentors, such as Lauren Bullock, Ph.D., Adam Dvorin, Steve Ryan, MS, APR, Meghnaa Tallapragada, Lu Ann Cahn, Marc Zumoff and Chris Blackman, for mentoring and preparing me for this day! As I begin my internship with the Cape Cod Baseball League, I am proud to announce that me and McKenna Grigoli are now on-air with our Cape League TV show, Beaches and Ballfields, which highlights what makes each Cape League town and team special. Our first three episodes are out now! I cannot thank the League enough for allowing me the opportunity as a utility intern to pursue my passions in writing and on-air work! While filming, I’ve been able to speak with a number of amazing players and coaches, including an interview with one of my favorite past Red Sox players, Jarrod Saltalamacchia. As a writing intern, I have also begun a travel series highlighting the best spots for tourists on the Cape this summer, and will continue to write about league partnerships and feature stories on players and the league. A big thank you to all of the CCBL interns who went out of their way to film our show- Kyle Adriaansen, Nate Tacey, Chris Duong, Amelia Bashy, Grace Kinney, Janel Sharman, Nola Gallagher, and Michael Bogosian - All of you have done fantastic work thus far and we could not have done it without you!

My seventh grade Honors World History teacher gave everyone nicknames. I came late every morning after doing the morning announcements, so I was named first; “Anchor Woman.” During my interview with former PR Department Chair Michael Lane, I mentioned how there was an opportunity to integrate tourism and social media with the Cape Cod Baseball League. With the players living with host families, each of the ten CCBL teams are immersed with the local town. People in the community come out and support their local teams, and cultivate a strong sense of community on the field. I am so proud to announce that the first three episodes of Beaches and Ballfields are posted on CapeLeague TV. My co-host Laura Pereira and I will be exploring all ten towns that house Cape League teams, and the remainder of these shows will air in the next week. For the rest of the summer, follow us along on feature episodes to highlight more hidden gems along the Cape, and get to know the players and interns a little better. This show would not be possible without the tremendous support of my fellow interns. From the coordinating of filming, late nights at the kitchen table editing with my roommates Amelia Bashy, Kyndall Williams, and Kara Adams, and bouncing ideas off each other, it truly has been a team effort. Something about this lifestyle that never gets old... Today was the Cape Cod Baseball League annual summer workout, where 10 of our teams travel from Cape Cod to Fenway Park to test their battling and fielding abilities in front of Major League Baseball (MLB) scouts from all over. I had the opportunity to network with numerous players, scouts, and other team interns throughout the day. I had the opportunity to even sit down with baseball legend, Peter Gammons, to talk about the many ebbs and flows of college and professional baseball. I even had the opportunity to catch up with Rob Bradford and join in on his iconic "Baseball Isn't Boring" segment! Everyday I am thankful to say that I do what I love and I am absolutely loving what I do!

I moved to Massachusetts just over two weeks ago to be the Cape Cod Baseball League's Public Relations Intern. I've had the privilege of working with Shawn McBride to create key messages, manage media inquiries, pitch to local, regional, and national news, edit our team's written content and send social media content ideas to our social team. This week, I had the opportunity to work alongside NESN for two events. First, Cape League Commissioner John Castleberry was on NESN's "Boston Has Entered The Chat" podcast, using my key messages to promote the league. Second, the Orleans Firebirds hosted the YD Red Sox for our first NESN broadcasted game of the season. I worked with Kara Adams to accumulate game and league storylines to be highlighted on the live broadcast and earned a placement on SportsCenter for a top play of the night. It's been a busy yet rewarding start to the summer doing public relations for the best summer collegiate league in the country. I'm eagerly looking forward to sharing more of my work in the coming weeks ahead of my final semester at Klein College of Media and Communication & Temple University!
