The group looked at the impressive progress taking place with this transformative facility that will redefine cancer and clinical care for our community, incorporating state-of-the art technology, expanded capacity and warm, modern design. Thank you to everyone who made our Tenth Annual Cancer Survivors Day a huge success! ✨ The uplifting day at Hyport Conference Center in Hyannis featured several inspiring speakers, including emcee Ethan Glazener, MD, radiation oncologist with Cape Cod Healthcare, and two cancer survivors, who spoke about their survivorship journey. ✨ The event provided an opportunity for our oncology team and more than 100 survivors and their guests to connect with one another, celebrate milestones and recognize those who have supported them along the way. ✨ Guests also engaged with interactive booths featuring reiki massage, pet therapy dogs, nutritional guidance, support groups, and a raffle to win one of 77 special-themed baskets created and donated by Cape Cod Healthcare departments. ✨ A big shout-out to all for your ongoing support of Cancer Survivors Day. We look forward to planning next year’s community celebration! 📸 Roberta Cannon

Meet Derek Vieira, senior construction project manager for Cape Cod Healthcare. In his role, Derek juggles multiple projects and works closely with his department leadership. At the top of his list is the Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion on the Cape Cod Hospital campus. The new patient care pavilion, which will feature a state-of-the-art cancer center and a unit dedicated to cardiac care, is on track to start welcoming patients in April 2025. Derek is working closely with doctors, nurses and department leads to help plan and coordinate the operations for cancer treatment and the procedure spaces. Although Derek doesn’t work in a clinical role, he is proud to oversee projects that help improve patient care. “I can walk away and say, ‘I’ve had a hand in that.’ That is where I get to smile a bit.” For our 10 Questions feature, we caught up with Derek at his office near Cape Cod Hospital where we discussed his very first job, his commute from New Bedford to Hyannis and his favorite mantra: https://bit.ly/3zz2fW2 (📸 Video clip captured in August)

At Cape Cod Healthcare, we know the best way to avoid the flu is to prevent it. As flu season begins, getting an annual flu vaccine is still the most important step in preventing seasonal flu and spreading it to others. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older receive a flu vaccine every year. Self-schedule your appointment through the convenience of our MyChart patient portal: https://lnkd.in/gNYv2D6w #FluSeason #FluVaccine #CaringCommitmentCommunity
