Dozens of humanitarian emergencies worldwide call for our attention daily. However, they receive very little funding from philanthropy and little media coverage due to several issues, including proximity to the crises, access to affected areas and ongoing strife. Therefore, these humanitarian emergencies all risk becoming forgotten crises. Join us for a webinar that will examine what philanthropy can do to support these #humanitarian crises. Between March 14 and March 16, there were dozens of #tornadoes across 12 states that left at least 40 people dead in seven affected states. At least 12 people died in Missouri, which was hard hit by tornadoes, including an EF-3. Recovery will likely take years for those hardest hit. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3FB7uXX #Disaster

A powerful 7.7 magnitude #earthquake struck central #Myanmar, near Sagaing, on March 28. Much of the damage from the earthquake is in the country’s second-most-populous city, Mandalay, home to 1.2 million people; however, many rural villages were also affected, as were roads and bridges to help rescuers reach them. Airports are closed, and power is out as well. Myanmar has been ruled by a military junta since 2021. The military also made a rare request for humanitarian aid from the international community, which is unusual and a clear signal of the extent of the problem. The full extent of the damage may not be known for weeks. The United States Geological Society issued a “red alert” for the earthquake, indicating they believed there would be a high number of fatalities and a significant economic impact. Our thoughts are with the people in Myanmar and Thailand affected by the devastating #earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake struck in Myanmar, which is an area currently experiencing a humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing civil war. These circumstances exacerbate both the devastation of the event as well as the need for recovery and aid in the affected areas. As critical relief work begins, we remind those in a position to help to consider flexible, unrestricted donations to support the full breadth of recovery services needed. https://lnkd.in/eUUPRnUm #disaster

Wildfires have been raging in 2025, doing massive damage in California, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and beyond. And these fires can leave whole communities destroyed, from homes, to businesses to schools and hospitals. Recovery on that scale can take years, particularly for marginalized communities that have limited access to funding and resources. Help communities recover from #wildfires and other disasters by donating now: https://bit.ly/3X4bvcl #CDP4Recovery #disaster

"With increasingly unpredictable weather patterns, flooding is no longer confined to FEMA-designated high-risk areas,” says Steve Butler, AVP of Personal Lines at Westfield. That’s why we’re expanding flood protection coverage options for homeowners and strengthening our community support. We’ve donated $750,000 to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy to support programs focused on rebuilding homes and providing mental health, legal, and disaster case management services. Every dollar invested in preparedness saves communities $13. This includes $6 in savings for damage and cleanup costs and $7 in saved economic costs for the community, according to the Climate Resiliency Report. #Disaster #preparedness was the focus of a recent webinar by CDP that looked at how philanthropy can work to reduce risks from disasters.
