The Metro Council of Baton Rouge voted to unanimously adopt the Baton Rouge Complete Streets Ordinance! Thank you to the Metro Council for taking this important step towards improved safety and livability in Baton Rouge. Congratulations and thanks to all collaborators, the Complete Streets Advisory Committee, AARP, American Heart Association, and all those who came out in support of the ordinance.

Check out the journey of Complete Streets in Baton Rouge! We've made incredible strides in expanding bike/pedestrian infrastructure and enhancing safety and connectivity for all users over the years. Now, in 2024, we're elevating this practice to an ordinance that ensures our streets are designed for all users. Did you know Baton Rouge's Complete Streets policy is getting a major facelift? In 2014, our Metro Council unanimously adopted this policy, leading to vast improvements in bike/pedestrian infrastructure and safety. Now, we're taking it further, turning this practice into an ordinance that carries the force of law and will enhance transportation infrastructure for all users. Join us at the council meeting on June 12th to support this ordinance! Complete Streets are designed for everyone – even if you never walk or bike, they boost community safety, economic development, and connectivity. While not every street will be a complete street, this safe network gives everyone more options for their daily travels. Let's celebrate and sustain accessible and convenient travel for all!

Baton Rouge is ranked among the top 5 most dangerous cities for pedestrians in Smart Growth America's 2024 Dangerous by Design Report. Baton Rouge has been expanding and improving its bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure over the past decade, but this is a reminder that streets that are safe for all users remains an urgent need in our city. The City-Parish’s commitment to a goal of zero fatalities and serious injuries on our roads and streets by 2040 and the strengthening of the existing Complete Streets policy are steps in the right direction to securing the safe, equitable roadways we want and need! Thank you to the National Association of Realtors for showcasing CPEX's work in Abbeville in the May issue of their publication, On Common Ground, and highlighting our demonstration project and innovative approach to community engagement. In partnership with the City of Abbeville, CPEX desinged and implemented a temporary complete street transformation, including a road diet and protected bike lane, achieved through painted curb extensions, steel barriers, and traffic cones. This demonstration project engaged residents with interactive elements, generating diverse public input. During this years conference, I discovered the significance of #placekeeping, I was reminded why it’s important to continually teach others to #pleasesayblack and I even learned more about how community engagement impacts #solarenergy from my brilliant commissioner Davante Lewis!
