Chesterfield County Police Department and Chesterfield County Mental Health Support Services are paving the way for a new method of handling mental health crises through the CORE (co-response) team, which pairs officers with behavioral health clinicians. This shift moves away from past methods where mental health emergencies could involve multiple officers and hours of waiting. Now, clinicians like Kristen Ellis Strickler, LPC-R, CSAC, CPSC, are on scene, assessing situations alongside law enforcement to provide immediate care and guidance. "We’re helping people get what they need...[officers are] able to get back out there [on patrol] and we’re able to help whomever it is that needs us," Strickler said. Chesterfield County and Chesterfield County Public Schools hosted an inspiring groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction on the new Bensley Elementary School. The school is replacing the 70-year-old building with a larger, modern structure, relieving current enrollment pressure and supporting future growth. The building will accommodate up to 1,000 students, significantly improving the old school’s capacity of 575 students. Bensley is the second school to be built with Chesterfield’s new two-story elementary school prototype design.
