Educating, connecting, and celebrating innovators across the Chicago region
About us
Since its start in 2002, Chicago Innovation (formerly Chicago Innovation Awards) has grown from a single award ceremony to a year-long series of events and activities designed to celebrate innovation in the Chicago region, educate people and organizations about the principles of innovation, and forge relationships that strengthen companies, grow the economy, and create jobs. Its expansion has included formation of the Chicago Innovation Women Mentoring Co-op to support female innovators, a Corporate Startup Matchmaking program to connect large corporations with emerging start-ups, the Winners Connection to promote past Chicago Innovation Award winners year-round, an Innovation MBA in partnership with IIT that offers real-world experiential learning and $10,000 scholarships, the Chicago Neighborhood Awards to promote innovation in Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods, and the Chicago Student Invention Convention to empower Chicago’s youth to be innovators. The Chicago Innovation Awards shine a bright light on the creative spirit of Chicago by focusing attention on the most significant new products and services introduced in the region. The winners each year are innovations that uniquely fill unmet needs, spark a competitive response in the marketplace, exceed market expectations, achieve financial success, and improve people’s lives. They emerge from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Most importantly, the Chicago Innovation Awards remind us that innovation is thriving in America’s heartland.

Thank you, Kate Maehr, for being a panelist. Your insights on the food insecurity crisis were incredibly impactful and have inspired us to strive for better solutions!
Thanks to Chicago Innovation for including the Greater Chicago Food Depository in last night’s Taste of Innovation event. I was honored to share the stage with several of Chicago’s leaders in food and hospitality, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to shine a light on the crisis of food insecurity that persists during this time of great innovation. Chef Curtis Duffy shared his belief that guests at his restaurant “need to feel loved” and it sparked a question in my mind. How do we ensure that all our neighbors feel respected, seen and loved when they need food – whether they are visiting an amazing award-winning restaurant or a food pantry? I believe it starts by centering the voices of people who have experienced the injustice of food insecurity. Chicago will continue to be a hub and an incubator for innovation in the world of food as long as we prioritize inclusivity in our innovations. Being a truly great community compels us to add more seats at the table.

Bring Magic to Work! Revolutionizing Team Excellence with Game-Based Organizational Health. We help executive leadership teams take action 45% faster.
🍽️ Yesterday, I attended the Taste of Innovation event at the DePaul University School of Music, hosted by Chicago Innovation. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when Michelin-star chefs, startup moguls, and a whole lot of foodies get together, the answer is simple: pure magic (and a few food comas). The big takeaway? While data is great, sometimes you need to trust your gut. After all, that's where all the good food goes! 🍕🍲🍩 #Innovation #FoodForThought #TrustYourGut #ChicagoEats #FoodiesUnite #TasteOfInnovation #PeopleMatter #GreaterChicagoFoodDepository

I had an incredible time at The Taste of Innovation, hosted by Chicago Innovation and The Executives' Club of Chicago. The panel discussion offered such valuable insights, including - Why Chicago, with its corporate leaders, ideal location and culture of invention, is the best city for food innovation - How to balance creativity with data-driven insights – when to go with your heart and when to carefully examine the figures - How alternative protein is better for the earth, better for your health, and true innovation - The vital efforts of the Greater Chicago Food Depository in addressing hunger and ensuring access to a quality diet across all income levels Sincere appreciation to the moderator, Kate Sullivan, and the panelists Lori Baran, Chef Curtis Duffy, Michael LaVitola, Kate Maehr, and Luke Saunders for such an informative discussion!

It has been a very busy week, y'all! From attending inspiriational and insightful talks and panels to BEING on a panel myself, I haven't really had a chance to gather my thoughts much less post about them. I will do that next week. BUT, in the meantime, keeping a promise to my event buddy, and for a Friday treat, here we are hanging out at the latest Chicago Innovation event. Great seeing you again Debbie Hirsch Saul!!
