A few weeks ago, I had the honor of co-hosting the Prayer Fest at the Vietnamese Alliance Church of Harrisburg. Our event, themed "Abounding Love," brought together believers from the lower Northeast region for a day of unity and worship. We welcomed six other Vietnamese Alliance Churches and were inspired by the generosity of our community, raising $2,700 worth of donations for families supported by CWS Harrisburg. Reverend Khoa Le's blessing captured the spirit of the day, reminding us of our mission to embody God's love through our actions. Events like this highlight the strength and resilience of our immigrant community. #PrayerFest #AboundingLove #CWSHarrisburg Read more: https://bit.ly/3y7VEB3

🗣️At the end of June, World Relief, Church World Service & The Refugee Advocacy Lab hosted #NorthCarolina Advocacy Day! Refugee leaders & community members from across the state met with elected leaders to call on them to support a bill that would provide licenses for internationally-trained teachers & increase language access at the DMV. We look forward to working with the General Assembly and our partners again next year to make these solutions a reality.

We often hear about global issues from a distant perspective, but our view changes when we hear directly from people on the ground. One of these individuals is Mercidieu Josaphat, who is the coordinator of a CWS partner organization in Jean Rebel Dos d’Ane, Northwest Haiti. Mercidieu lives with his wife, three children, and two cousins. Like many Haitians, he sees the complexity of his country: a place that he loves, but one with many challenges. Watch this video to learn more about the challenges and support systems for humanitarian parolees in the United States. Humanitarian parole is a temporary immigration status granted to certain populations, offering a lifeline but not guaranteeing permanent residency or the right to work. Organizations like CWC provide essential support to help these individuals rebuild their lives and integrate into communities.

The short answer is, no! Nobel Prize Winning Economist, David Card, began exploring this question in the 80s by analyzing the impact of Cuban arrivals on labor. The result of his study revealed that there was "no detectable effect." While this study occurred many years ago, various similar studies have been replicated to find the same result.
