Eosinophils are a normal part of your blood. Sometimes, there can be too many eosinophils in different parts of the body, which leads to eosinophilic disorders. These cells usually move to an area when your body wants to attack something like an allergen. But if there are too many eosinophils, they can cause long-term swelling and damage to your tissues. Our Cincinnati Center for Eosinophilic Disorders is equipped to care for patients with all sorts of eosinophilic disorders, and we are proud to celebrate them as this week’s #FridayFeature! Alex has been a lifelong cardiac patient at Cincinnati Children's. Diagnosed with a heart defect at birth, he has had three heart surgeries with us, and during his hospital stays, his sister would bring a stuffed animal and a book to read while visiting. Today, Alex is 15 years old, and wanted to give back to others undergoing cardiac surgeries by providing them with "a friend and a story." As part of his Eagle Scout project, he collected 107 stuffed toys and coordinating books, exceeding his initial goal of 100! Thank you, Alex!
