Today, Mayor Evans joined Senator Chuck Schumer, Congressman Joe Morelle, and other city leaders to advocate for a $23 million federal grant aimed at improving traffic safety on four high-crash corridors in Rochester. These improvements include road diets, new bike lanes, and enhanced pedestrian amenities on N. Clinton Avenue, East Main Street, Chili Avenue, and Lexington Avenue. The grant would advance the city's ROC Vision Zero initiative, which aims to eliminate traffic-related injuries and deaths. Mayor Evans emphasized the transformative potential of this funding to create safer, more accessible streets for all Rochester residents, especially in historically underserved neighborhoods. #RochesterNY

The City of Rochester is launching the How We ROC program and is seeking six talented photographers to capture the diverse community engagement at City-funded major events! To support this creative journey, the City will provide expanded-access media credentials to major City events, $1,500 to support services and exhibit production, and the opportunity to curate a photography exhibit at the City Hall Link Gallery. “Access to inspiration is vital for increasing creativity, and in our city of and for the arts, the commitment to equity extends to all our efforts, including all art mediums,” said Mayor Evans. “The How We ROC program exemplifies our dedication to providing creatives with the opportunities they need to thrive. Emphasizing the city's commitment to ensuring residents have access to clean, safe drinking water, Mayor Evans announced a $3 million state grant for replacing 772 lead service lines in Rochester. The project is part of the city's initiative to replace all lead-containing service lines by 2030. Residents are encouraged to inspect and report their pipes to aid in future replacements. Rochester's youth were dressed for success at the Mayor's MentorUp Summer Soiree this weekend. Mentors from various industries, including communications, legal, business/entrepreneurship, engineering, and more, gathered at the George Eastman Museum to meet and network with youth, sharing tips for success in their respective fields. The Mayor's MentorUp program connects local youth ages 14-18 with mentors in career fields that interest them. MentorUp gatherings serve as the initial platform for youth to forge connections with local leaders in a relaxed atmosphere. The goal of the program is to foster mentor-mentee relationships that can lead to jobs and internships for high school students.
