On Tuesday, Nov. 5, voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots "yes" or "no" for each of the following propositions: PROP A: Provide that the Mayor and City Council members shall have term limits consisting of three (3) consecutive, four (4) year terms beginning with the 2025 election. Currently provided: Two (2) consecutive, four (4) year terms. PROP B: Provide for compensation of $750 per month for newly-elected Council members and $1,000 per month for a newly-elected Mayor beginning Oct. 1, 2025. Currently provided: Compensation of $50 per meeting for all members, including the Mayor. In addition, the Mayor is provided compensation of $100 per month. PROP C: Correct non-substantive errors such as misspellings, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure, and revise references to obsolete provisions of state law and harmonize conflicting sections and conform notice and publication requirements to state law. PROP D: Delete provisions, practices, and policies, which are no longer employed by the City of McKinney. Register to vote by Monday, Oct. 7 to be eligible to vote in the election. Early voting is Oct. 21 - Nov. 1.

Time to welcome the New Kids on the Block! Beginning Monday, Sept. 30, the City of McKinney will have a new trash and recycling contractor for all who pay for trash and recycling services through the City of McKinney. Frontier Waste Solutions provides collection services for trash, recycling, yard waste, and bulky item pickup. This service contractor does not collect for residents who only have a City of McKinney water account or who do not live within city limits. Our recent Second Saturday Workday at McKinney Green Gardens was a success! 🌿 Volunteers worked hard to enhance the garden’s upkeep while supporting our goals in water conservation and stormwater education. This event was in association with McKinney’s Office of Environmental Sustainability and McKinney Parks and Recreation. We focused on native plants, crucial for water conservation and local biodiversity. Special thanks to the Blackland Prairie Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists for their expert guidance, and to Home Depot Store #6809 & Scotts Miracle-Gro for their generous donations of soil, mulch, and essential equipment. September is Hunger Action Month and it’s time for the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) annual Peanut Butter Drive! NTFB aims to raise $300,000 to purchase peanut butter and collect 100,000 pounds of peanut butter or alternative nut butters this year. The public is invited to attend 9/11 Day of Remembrance at Mitchell Park in Downtown McKinney. The self-guided memorial will be on display Sept. 6-13. Upon arrival, follow the sidewalk markings to a timeline display of graphics recounting the events of 9/11. The flags throughout the park stand as solemn tributes, representing each life lost on that tragic day. This annual event is hosted by Leadership McKinney Alumni Network.
