With the frequency and duration of climate change-driven heat rising, protecting these workers who are instrumental to our economy is essential. Send a message to the Cal/OSHA Standards Board to adopt the revised indoor worker heat standard, immediately start the rule-making process for the Department of Corrections' indoor heat standard, and hire more enforcement officers. -> Take Action Today bit.ly/4cpBZLq <- Until the board adopts the standards, Cal/OSHA inspectors cannot effectively protect indoor workers from heat. Without clear rules stating the temperature at which heat is hazardous, businesses face no threat of enforcement action. Please consider supporting Climate Resolve with a donation today. Your generous contribution will directly impact the lives of workers, ensuring their protection from extreme heat. No matter the amount, your donation will be vital in our ongoing battle against heat-related injuries in workplaces and communities. Your support will make a meaningful difference in protecting California's indoor workers' lives and livelihoods.

California must protect all its communities, and we need your help safeguarding indoor workers from extreme heat. We still need to reach our goal, and our advocacy efforts will likely lose momentum without your crucial support. Please help us continue our fight against extreme heat by making a tax-deductible donation today. -> https://bit.ly/4cpBZLq Recently, the LA Times reported that California prisons remain unprepared to deal with extreme heat and protect individuals. Prisons were initially covered under the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s new heat regulations for indoor workers, which established standards and requirements for workplaces to protect workers from extreme heat. However, state correctional facilities were excluded from the regulation because the cost of adhering to the rules would be too expensive. Take action today to tell Cal/OSHA to immediately start the rule-making process for the Department of Corrections’ indoor heat standard and to hire more enforcement officers. -> https://bit.ly/4cpBZLq * https://lnkd.in/gj6AeasA

"As dangerous heat becomes impossible to ignore, an array of practical innovations are emerging around the world to protect people most vulnerable to its hazards. What’s notable is that these efforts don’t require untested technologies. Instead, they’re based on ideas that are practical and already known to work." https://lnkd.in/gTabeSr8

In partnership with Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and Climate Resolve, we were delighted to welcome the new LADWP CEO & Chief Engineer, Janisse Quiñones PE to our home in the LADWP-owned La Kretz Innovation Campus for a reception last night. Janisse is off to an exciting start in her first two months at the helm of LADWP and we were fortunate to hear a bit about her commitment to building a clean and equitable energy future for the people of Los Angeles. With similarly inspiring remarks from Deputy Mayor Nancy Sutley, Climate Resolve Executive Director Jonathan Parfrey, and LACI CEO & President Matt Petersen, the event brought together a host of sustainability leaders from across the region to share ideas and project a vision for more sustainable and prosperous communities. We look forward to many more years of steadfast partnership and collaboration! “Urban heat islands already expose residents to disproportionate heat risks and cooling costs, which will only climb as long as carbon pollution drives up global temperatures.” https://lnkd.in/gC5-2der

California faces significant challenges, from intensifying heat waves due to climate change to unsafe working conditions. Our recent victory for indoor workers is just the beginning. We're working to ensure proper heat standards in all workplaces and increase enforcement to protect employees. We need your support to address the conditions in correctional facilities and replace them with a proper indoor heat standard. Additionally, for laws and regulations to be effective, authorities must enforce them and focus on Cal/OSHA recruiting more enforcement officers. Your donation today can make a significant difference in creating a safer California for all. Every contribution is a step toward our shared goal, no matter how small. We appreciate your support and look forward to making a positive impact together! bit.ly/4cpBZLq #CaliforniaWorkers #ClimateAction #ExtremeHeat

"Downsizing a dilapidated and bloated prison system makes fiscal sense for a state in the red. And as temperatures continue to rise, closing prisons and jails is an increasingly promising strategy for pragmatic and ethical climate adaptation that won’t break the bank and will save lives." https://lnkd.in/gQUv2bjB
Opinion: California will finally have indoor heat standards for workplaces — with a cruel exception

“Even if this specific streak of extremes ends at some point, we are bound to see new records being broken as the climate continues to warm. This is inevitable unless we stop adding greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and the oceans.” https://lnkd.in/dW42Ma-4
