Since 2019, Climate Resolve’s Ready for Tomorrow program has provided no-cost grant writing assistance to municipalities, tribal entities, and community-based organizations seeking funding for climate action. Since its inception, the program has earned a remarkable $24.4 million in awards and recently received ecoAmerica’s 2024 American Climate Leadership Award. Our program has been instrumental in implementing crucial climate-related projects, such as constructing bike lanes, planting shade trees, and transitioning municipal fleets to zero-emission buses. These initiatives have mitigated the effects of climate change and significantly improved the quality of life in disadvantaged communities. With continued support from Edison International, ServiconCares, East West Bank, City National Bank, and CIT, the Ready for Tomorrow program is announcing its continued efforts to provide no-cost grant writing assistance services across Southern California. If your community is interested in climate readiness funding, please visit the Ready for Tomorrow page and submit an intake form.

Thanks again to Kurt Shickman and the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) team for the opportunity to join them on this podcast episode to talk about Climate Resolve's Shine On initiative! Climate nerds, if you have 35 minutes during your commute, workout, or whenever, please check out this episode. In addition, I sought to mention many of the other folks who are doing great work on cool surfaces with us, including Ronnen Levinson, Pouya Vahmani, Frank Klink, Haider Taha, Randolph Kirchain, Pacoima Beautiful, Berkeley Lab, MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub, 3M, GAF, Cool Roof Rating Council, New Buildings Institute, ClimateWorks Foundation, The Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment and others. We're grateful for your partnership!
#DidYouKnow that the scientific term for the degree of solar reflectance of a surface is "albedo"? Earth's average albedo is about 30% reflectance, while fresh snow reflects about 90%. By designing our urban infrastructure with reflective surfaces, we can reduce the urban heat island effect and offset the warming effect of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere! Last year, the nonprofit Climate Resolve launched its Shine On initiative to study the impacts of albedo management of the built environment on climate change. Listen to our most recent Climate Conversation podcast episode with Shine On Program Director Seth Jacobson to learn more. Special thanks to EESI Board Member Kurt Shickman for joining the conversation as a co-host! There are many tools and solutions available to help offset the global rise in temperature caused by greenhouse gas emissions. One such method that has been gaining traction in recent years is the use of solar-reflective materials in the built environment. In the latest episode of The Climate Conversation podcast, Climate Resolve Climate Solutions Officer Seth Jacobson and EESI Board Member Kurt Shickman discuss our work in launching the Shine On initiative to study the impact of albedo management of the built environment on climate change. Kurt was also an editor and a contributing author to the recently published white paper “Shine On: Increasing Local Solar Reflectance as a Means to Reduce the Greenhouse Gas Effect.” You can listen to their interview here: https://lnkd.in/gi6Xsb6n Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI)
