Every week, our team talks to dozens of climate job seekers who are looking to land a job in this field. The job seekers who successfully secured climate roles did three things exceptionally well: - Planned in advance: They researched the companies they were interested in and understood how they could be an asset before ever reaching out. - Networked strategically: They connected with key people at those companies, asking pointed questions to understand the company’s challenges and goals. - Sold their value: They positioned themselves as the solution to the company’s pain points, effectively selling their skills rather than just applying to open roles. These job seekers also spent a lot of time understanding: - The specific needs and challenges of the companies they targeted - How their skills and experience could directly address those needs - The company’s culture and how they could fit into it On the other hand, job seekers who struggled: - Applied to jobs reactively without understanding the company’s needs - Focused on quantity over quality in their applications and networking - Ended up in interviews where they couldn’t clearly articulate how they could add value to the company If we were looking for a #climatejob now, we would: - Research potential employers thoroughly to understand their challenges and needs - Connect with key people at those companies to gather insights and build relationships - Tailor pitches to show how we could be a solution to their specific problems If this resonates with you, join us next week for an AMA session with Cameron McDonald. We’ll dive deeper into using a sales mentality in your job search and leading with networking. Climate change is driving more extreme weather events, making resilient infrastructure essential for our safety and economy. Here’s how some advanced solutions can make a difference: 🔹 Flood-proofing: Protects buildings from rising waters, reducing damage and safeguarding communities. 🔹 Fireproofing: Shields structures from wildfires, helping to prevent catastrophic losses. 🔹 Green roofs: Mitigate urban heat islands, lower energy costs, and improve air quality. 🔹 Temperature-resistant designs: Ensure infrastructure can handle extreme temperature fluctuations, preventing costly damage. 🔹 Wind-resistant structures: Protect buildings from high winds and hurricanes, improving safety and durability. These solutions not only enhance safety but also reduce long-term repair costs and improve overall resilience. Companies like FloodFrame, Ember Defense, Kinemetrics, Inc., Arup, ResilientGrid, Miyamoto International, FORTRESS Protective Buildings, JBA Risk Management, Fathom, First Street, and Climate X are paving the way!
