Get to Know Cole Architects' Partner, Ian Schmidt. Ian is the chair and a two-term member of the Bend Affordable Housing Advisory Committee. He's also the director of the Bend and Central Oregon chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). When he's not working, Ian loves backcountry trekking and wayfinding through the Oregon mountains. His next outdoor goal? A multi-day cross-country ski trip! After some medical misadventures in 2024, Ian now has a service dog named Stella who helps him stay on track. Stella is by far the happiest member of our Bend staff, and you'll often see her traveling with Ian between Cole's three offices and on all sorts of adventures. Ian's extensive experience and leadership in architecture, combined with his zest for life and genuine connection with people, have proven invaluable to Cole Architects. Get to Know Bend’s Principal Architect, Heidi Slaybaugh. Heidi was recently appointed a full voting member of the Bend Landmarks Commission! Heidi celebrated her birthday at our Bend office Happy Hour last month. Heidi’s summer heat hack is skiing in July. She's already skied in 10 months of the year and is determined to conquer the remaining two soon. Heidi leads the Central Oregon Women in Design & Construction group, championing women in the industry. Heidi's leadership, professionalism, and dedication to the Bend community make her an invaluable asset to Cole Architects. The new Chandler Fire Station 2 for the Chandler Fire Department increases emergency response capabilities and safety for fire personnel. The new facility includes four apparatus bays, individual dorm rooms, living quarters, a conditioning room, a workshop, and a public entrance.
