📰 Haiti may be in the headlines but not for what you think. 🗣️"Haiti isn’t making the news as one of the many countries currently facing extreme hunger crises, but it should… Only 35% of the Humanitarian Response Plan’s $674 million target has been funded… If this level of humanitarian underinvestment continues, it will have devastating consequences, not just now but for generations to come," writes Dominic MacSorley, Concern Worldwide US Humanitarian Ambassador. ❗Currently in #Haiti, read Dominic's reflection below about the grim reality on the ground and what Concern's team in Haiti is doing to address the rising needs of the population amid a deepening hunger crisis and escalating violence. ⬇️

Ending extreme poverty, whatever it takes.
About us
Concern Worldwide is an international humanitarian organization committed to the relief, assistance and advancement of the poorest people in the least developed countries of the world. Founded in Ireland in 1968, Concern Worldwide has over 4,700 personnel working in 26 countries across the globe. Concern believes in a world where no one lives in fear; where all have access to a decent standard of living and the opportunities essential to a long, healthy and creative life. Our mission is to help people living in absolute poverty achieve major improvements in their lives, improvements that are sustainable without ongoing support from Concern. Concern envisions a world where no one lives in poverty, fear, or oppression where everyone can exercise their rights to a decent standard of living with equal access to opportunities. We believe in creating a culture of inclusion where everyone feels empowered to bring their full, authentic selves to the workplace. Building a diverse and inclusive team is an absolute necessity to deliver the solutions needed to achieve our core mission, because without promoting justice and equality, we cannot eliminate extreme poverty. Concern Worldwide US (CUS) is an independent affiliate of Concern Worldwide, with offices in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. CUS advances the Concern Worldwide mission through mobilizing financial and human resources, as well as influencing and activating networks in the US to elevate programs globally.

💚 "Gender training helps us to grow closer together." With the support of USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, Concern is supporting households affected by conflict and disaster in the Democratic Republic of Congo with gender equality programming by conducting a series of gender training sessions every two weeks with the aim of transforming or rebalancing gender attitudes and norms. This program is a multi-sectoral approach to livelihood restoration interventions, helping communities recover from shocks brought on by disasters and conflict. In 2023, Concern reached over 136,000 people through integrated programs like these, bringing together components like gender equality, protection, education, livelihoods, and water and sanitation. #DRC #USAID #genderequality

Though the floods in #Nairobi haven't made headlines, with the generous support of USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance Concern is responding to support affected communities. Our response is targeting 31,000 people with cash assistance, and over 60,000 people with critical WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) programming. #USAID #Beyondtheheadlines
The devastating #floods in Kenya have displaced countless families in urban informal settlements, leaving many without shelter and mourning the loss of loved ones. With funding from the American people through USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance working with local partner Mukuru Slums Development Projects, we have launched a 6-month #response project in the affected urban informal settlements of Nairobi. We are working to support affected communities by providing cash assistance and WASH NFIs to help rebuild their lives.

It was a beautiful day yesterday at Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club in Oyster Bay! Concern Worldwide US Board Member, Gemma Toner from TONE Networks hosted 25 guests to admire and shop dazzling pieces by jeweler to the stars, Ruchi New York. I had the privilege to join this powerhouse crowd and share the incredible work of Concern Worldwide to end extreme poverty across 26 countries. Guests were impressed to learn that $0.93 of every dollar donated directly benefits our country programs. A portion of the day’s sales was donated to Concern, and Ruchi Kotahwala, Founder, Creative Director of Ruchi NY, generously offered to gift a piece to our upcoming auction at Concern Global Gala: Unite to Fight Hunger in NYC! Thank you, Gemma and friends, for hosting a lovely afternoon in support of Concern Worldwide.

After a disaster, local organizations know what is needed and how to get things done. They know the area and have a deep connection with the affected communities. At USAID, our partnerships with local actors are vital to providing accountable, effective, and efficient humanitarian assistance, along with promoting early recovery, risk reduction, and community resilience. That is why it is a priority that we place local communities at the center of humanitarian work. In fact, in fiscal year 2023 alone, we awarded nearly $60 million directly to local partners across more than 20 countries. 🚨 Press Update | With the UN declaring the first famine in 7 years, with over half a million people in the Zamzam camp of #NorthDarfur, Sudan, experiencing famine, a major response by the international community is urgently needed to prevent further catastrophic levels of hunger in Sudan with over 25 million people currently facing crisis conditions. "We are now in a race against the clock to reach and assist as many people as we can," Dr. Farooq Khan, Concern Worldwide Sudan Country Director, said. Flooding in recent weeks has exacerbated the already dire conditions. At least 10 million Sudanese people have fled their homes to escape the fighting or in search of food with eight million displaced within #Sudan. Concern is also conducting cross-border responses in #Chad, to support the 2.3 million who have fled Sudan for neighboring countries. Swipe for more on Concern's response. 📲 If you would like to speak to a member of our team about any aspect of our work, please get in touch with Candance Patel-Taylor.
