About us

Conscious Community Connectors (CCC) is a consulting firm that works to facilitate connections within and between communities. By engaging residents, actualizing visions, paving pathways, and telling stories, these intentionally cultivated connections continue to grow long after CCC’s work is done. CCC uses innovative and culturally relevant practices and technologies in community engagement work to ensure our strategies reach as many people as possible. Our diverse backgrounds in urban planning, digital media and design, facilitation, policy, government affairs, and nonprofit management allow us to create robust and comprehensive products and processes.

  • 🙌 So proud and honored to have been part of this initiative! The connections built through Healing Our Highways continue to grow and create lasting impact in our community. This opportunity allowed us to directly pay and support incredible local artists and cultural workers—something that is core to our mission and the way we believe all engagement should be done. We hope this serves as a model for other communities facing similar challenges to Tampa Heights, demonstrating how arts, culture, and storytelling can be foundational—not just an afterthought—in planning and decision-making. True change happens when we invest in the people shaping the story, and we’re excited to see how this work continues to inspire and take root. Huge thanks to Smart Growth America and the entire team for making this possible!

Arlington's Rosslyn-Ballston corridor shows how proactive zoning and affordable housing policies can prevent accelerated displacement while fostering economic growth. Other solutions include Denver's TOD Fund for preserving affordable housing near transit and San Francisco's Small Sites Program supporting nonprofit acquisition of affordable rental properties. https://lnkd.in/eDHhKi7v

YES!! So validating and reassuring to see this! A big inspiration behind creating our consultancy, Conscious Community Connectors was to ensure residents are paid for their time and expertise—something that unfortunately hasn’t been the norm in our field. Hopefully, this guideline will push government agencies to truly value community members and recognize the importance of their contributions. When residents are valued and compensated, it leads to more meaningful engagement and more successful projects. Excited to see this kind of progress being made and hopeful about what this means for projects in the future 🤩

How can government empower the people it serves? In Washington State, we are modeling shared power and collective leadership in real, structural ways. One of these ways is to partner with community members who volunteer to help government solve problems WITH the people we serve instead of coming up with solutions on their behalf. An important component to this is to pay these community members for their invaluable insights and contributions. The Washington State Office of Equity recently released updated Community Compensation Guidelines for state agencies to use. I am grateful and humbled by my colleague Sabrina Njoroge's leadership in updating these guidelines (along with MANY others). "Historically, government has often functioned in a paternalistic manner, making decisions without co-creating and engaging with the people who are impacted most. Throughout history, such populations excluded from participation on related topical manners have often gone on to experience an increase in burden and harm observably derived from the lack of nuanced lived experience perspectives involved in the development of planning, policies, and actions. This has not always fostered positive community outcomes. To change this, we must collaborate with community members in decision-making. Community members are the experts in their own lived experience and know best what they need to achieve autonomy over their lives and thrive. Therefore, community members who give their time and energy to share their expertise and perspectives provide an invaluable lens into the inner workings of our systems and have critical insights into what must change to achieve better program outcomes. As identified by community members with lived experience, compensation is only one of several practices necessary to ensure individuals are meaningfully supported and retained to participate in complex government processes effectively." #SharedPower #EquityAndBelonging #StateGovernment #RelationalPartnership #CommunityCompensation #Equity
