“You suffer a lot on the journey. There are things that leave a mark on you along the way,” says Rickis, a mother who spent a month traveling to the U.S. border with her young children, only to be returned to Honduras. With the help of USAID's Sembrando Esperanza and Fundación Ayuda en Acción, a pilot program is providing crucial emotional, social and financial support to returned migrants like Rickis. This initiative not only addresses the trauma and hardships faced during migration but also focuses on sustainable reintegration into their communities. The pilot has already shown promising results, with 95 out of 105 participants experiencing improved quality of life. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eNWmdDCs

Creative's Senior Technical Advisor, Adam Bramm, attended IFC’s inaugural Global Agribusiness Conference, which gathered companies, investors and government officials focused on improving smallholder farmers’ professionalism and closing yield gaps.
Great running into Sara Seavey at the IFC Agribusiness Conference! It was a very full two days learning about regenerative agriculture and investing in agribusinesses. Very relevant as Creative Associates International builds on and expands its economic growth work in this space.

Over the weekend we celebrated the International Day of Peace. With increasing violence and instability, now more than ever we must invest in peace. Creative Associates International is working for peace by engaging with policy makers, teachers, and learners to promote and practice inclusion and tolerance in schools and at home. At the same time, Creative is working closely with governments and communities to prepare the next generation to fully participate in society, so they benefit from and contribute to a more peaceful world. We do this work by integrating social and emotional learning into education programming, fostering critical thinking, supporting those who promote understanding and empathy, and strengthening reading and numeracy skills in systemically vulnerable communities. Through our work with children, youth, teachers, and communities in crisis and conflict contexts such as Afghanistan, Palestine, Somalia, and Yemen and we equip individuals with the skills they need to engage in constructive dialogue, solve conflicts, and build inclusive communities. In conflict zones, schools can become safe havens and symbols of hope. By supporting education in these regions, and advocating for schools as safe spaces, we invest in a foundation for lasting peace and resilience. Together with our local partners, international donors, and Ministries of Education we are building a future where knowledge paves the way for peace and peace paves the way for prosperity.

On this #InternationalDayofPeace, we celebrate the role of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in fostering lasting peace, especially in conflict-affected areas. As Ilham Nasser emphasizes, educators equip students to handle conflicts peacefully and build more inclusive communities by teaching skills like empathy, self-awareness, and forgiveness. SEL empowers classrooms to become spaces of acceptance, where differences are embraced and emotions are understood — creating the foundation for a more peaceful society.

“It’s not a time to celebrate peace, but a time to commit and work on it. The more we can ensure a sense of security and safety for children around the world, the more peaceful our world will become.” In observance of #InternationalDayofPeace tomorrow, Creative’s founder, Charito Kruvant, shares her reflections on this year's theme, “Cultivating a Culture of Peace.” Charito emphasizes that now is not just a moment for celebration but a critical time to actively pursue and foster peace.

A new study by the University of Cape Coast, supported by USAID - Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI)‘s Littorals Regional Initiative, highlights the ongoing threat of political youth vigilante groups in Ghana. These groups, often rebranded as “party security,” pose risks to the 2024 elections through violence, ballot disruptions and community intimidation. Learn more about the risks these groups pose and how the government, civil society and stakeholders can bring about lasting change.

“We aim to support Uzbekistan’s efforts to become a safe and inclusive society.” USAID's All Children Succeeding Activity brought together over 30 journalists and bloggers in Tashkent for a workshop on inclusive education, addressing the often-outdated media coverage of people with disabilities. Led by disability activists and media experts, the event aimed to empower participants with the tools to tell more inclusive stories, use proper terminology and reshape the narrative around disability in Uzbekistan.
