Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity's Donna Vincent was kind enough to visit the Commission for our regular September meeting and update us on GLFH4H work throughout the community. The CVPDC is supporting creation of new affordable housing on Knott Street thanks to resources provided to us by Virginia Housing.

We kicked off our Safe Streets for All planning effort today. Meanwhile, The News & Advance ran this article educating motorists about safe driving around school children. The CVPDC's SS4A steering committee noted motorists' ignorance of these traffic laws. Kudos to these local newspapers for their public service on this topic! https://lnkd.in/eYPAy_2J.

Did you know? Amherst County is home to Old Dominion Job Corps Center, one of 120 such centers in the U.S. providing free career training and education for low-income 16- through 24-year-olds. Here, students get the experience they need to begin a career or apprenticeship, go on to college, or join the military. The best part? It’s free. Job Corps celebrated 60 years in Central Virginia yesterday with partners across the planning district including Virginia Career Works - Central Region staff, board members, and Chairman Nat Marshall.

Did you know? The Governor receives a biennial report on the work of the Commonwealth's 21 planning district commissions. We're working on our portion of the next report now. Look for it later this year. It's interesting to reflect on the innovation that occurred during the pandemic. Here's the FY21-22 report: https://lnkd.in/eKB77x9h
