Each year, DQC analyzes state legislation that governs the collection and use of education and workforce data in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Our latest resource shares state legislative trends in 2024 and key state legislative efforts to enhance state data systems. The highlights: - Colorado enacted a workforce development law that codifies cross-agency data governance and sets the stage for improved policy decisions and equitable access to data; - States took steps to enhance their data systems, including exploring how to improve existing frameworks to support evidence-based research and providing dedicated funding to ensure sustainability; and - Legislators enacted policies that use data to help smooth pathways from high school to whatever comes next—whether that is college or career. DQC Board Chair Morgan Polikoff, together with the Center on Reinventing Public Education, analyzed state report cards and found that states are still not providing data to parents in a way that is easy to find, use, and understand. When data is unavailable, students and families don't have a full picture of the information they need to make critical decisions about education pathways. https://lnkd.in/eZY_3agv

Chronically absent students need someone to know they are missing classes, understand why, and find solutions to address their unique needs. Attendance data that is disaggregated by geographical and demographic variables, like home location, grade level, and socioeconomic status, can help shine a light on all of the potential reasons for chronic absenteeism. Explore how some states are working to address this critical issue in our latest blog:
