✨ Happy Community Planning Month! dD+P recently attended the Urban Design Forum Fall Fellow Party. The Urban Design Forum is a network of urbanists working across disciplines to shape a more vibrant, verdant, and just New York City. The Urban Design Forum community has grown to over 1,000 Fellows who have spent the past year advancing ideas toward a climate positive city, launching public realm projects across the boroughs, connecting with peer cities around the world to tackle the housing crisis, and imagining a city where youth can thrive. ⭐ dD+P is proud to partner with Urban Design Forum on community-centered works, including contributing to the design and planning of the Chinatown Night Market and working on The Local Center Initiative developing a public realm vision plan and public space activations for Sunnyside, Queens! #DDPStudio #DesignStudio #Architecture #Design #UrbanDesign

🍺 Last week was the grand opening of Manhattan Beer Distributors' upgraded facilities and new Suffern addition! Manhattan Beer Distributors emphasize leadership in sustainability, striving to operate their facilities in a way that benefits the environment, community, and business. dD+P designed the expansion of Manhattan Beer's Suffern Facility, which more than doubled inventory capacity and significantly expanded the facility's rail capacity. The expansion includes the renovation of the existing two warehouses (240,000 SF), a new high performance 100,000 SF, 55-foot-tall warehouse housing a robotic 7-level high Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), and new administrative offices to create a new park-like distribution center. Improved rail capacity features 57 new loading docks and exterior rail platforms with capacity for 12 railcars on a double-track. Sustainability, high performance systems, and connecting the three uniquely different buildings were among the many design challenges at the forefront of this project. The new facility eliminates thousands of truck trips from local roads each year, features a 1 MW solar array, and is the first of Manhattan Beer’s facilities to have 100% of its fleet powered by renewable natural gas. “Manhattan Beer Distributors and dD+P have collaborated to address and respond to climate change in a way that is good for the community and good for business.” – Andrew Berger, Partner #DesignStudio #Architecture #Design #ManhattanBeerDistributors

🏃🤸 Last week, dD+P joined the NYC School Construction Authority (SCA) to celebrate the grand opening of PS 256Q’s new schoolyard in Far Rockaway, Queens! Designed in response to damage caused by Superstorm Sandy, the school adheres to FEMA flood standards, offering three floors of space for students and staff and a new outdoor play area. The school serves a large population of students on the autism spectrum and supports sensory and cognitive needs while fostering a sense of safety and belonging. The play area includes planters for gardening and interactive installations such as percussive instruments, a flute, an xylophone, and tic-tac-toe. ⭐ Click for more information about the project (https://lnkd.in/gR9xcqdd)! #SchoolConstructionAuthority #NYCSCA #SchoolDesign #School

dD+P Studio Member Feature: Christopher Yip “I enjoy exploring and solving design problems in functional and practical ways. Working on dD+P’s Education Team, I am immersed in the inner workings of school buildings, much of which I took for granted when I was a student. Hidden in plain sight, there’re multiple layers of architectural details that I've learned to recognize. I strive to apply this detail-oriented attitude to everything I do.” Christopher is a Junior Designer and has been working with dD+P since 2018. He worked on PS 256Q in Queens, NY! #DDPStudio #DesignStudio #Architecture #StudioMember #Design
