Su Pyae Sone Soe, PE will be presenting “Trenchless Replacement of Aging Force Main in the Russian River Gorge” on Tuesday, October 15, 10:45am at the 18th Annual WESTT NASTT No-Dig Conference and Good Practice Course in Pomona, California. The Russian River County Sanitation District’s Headworks, Lift Stations, and Force Main project includes replacement of approximately 10,000 feet of 8- to 16-inch-diameter sanitary sewer force main along exposed Franciscan bedrock and majestic redwood tree-covered terrain of the steep, rugged Russian River Gorge in the historic logging area of #Guerneville, California. The existing force main was installed over 40 years ago to convey wastewater to the District’s local treatment plant, and includes two crossings of the Russian River. This session summarizes the Project’s trenchless design and lessons learned from prior microtunnel crossings of the Russian River and its tributaries. Sarah Mills will be presenting “Trenchless Replacement of Aging Sewer Trunk Main in Sonoma, California” on Tuesday, October 15 at 3:40pm at the 18th Annual WESTT NASTT No-Dig Conference and Good Practice Course in Pomona, California. The Sonoma Valley County Sanitation District’s Sewer Trunk Main Replacement Project includes 1.6 miles of 24-inch-diameter polyvinyl-chloride gravity sanitary sewer pipeline to replace an existing 18-inch-diameter reinforced concrete gravity sanitary sewer trunk main constructed in the late 1950s. The replacement pipeline is designed for open-cut installation and multiple trenchless crossings. This session summarizes lessons learned during trenchless construction of the Happy Lane Cul-De-Sac crossing and the Happy Lane to Orchard Avenue crossing. In collaboration with Engineers Australia and the Young Members Committee of the Australasian Tunnelling Society Victorian Chapter, please join Brooke Carnes and Heather Hughes-Adams, P.Eng on 22 October for a presentation on North East Link SEM Ventilation Tunnel and Adit Construction.   The construction of the North East Link (NEL) tunnels is well underway. The largest transport infrastructure project in Victorian history consists of 6.5 km tunnels from Watsonia to Bulleen, and it will complete Melbourne’s orbital freeway network.   This presentation will provide an overview of the recently constructed ventilation tunnel and adits using the Sequential Excavation Method (SEM). The key topics include primary support types and selection criteria, construction sequence and methodology, observational ground behaviour and support optimisation on-site.   To learn more and register for the event, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gE-ij6tc

It was an absolute pleasure giving a seminar to the brilliant students at Columbia University about tunnel construction via the Sequential Excavation Method in Professor Ibrahim Odeh,'s Principals of construction techniques class. The tunneling industry awaits for these bright minds to join and share their fresh perspective, along with their new, innovative ideas. Thank you so much for this opportunity, Prof. Odeh, Prof. Waisman, and Delve Underground – looking forward to future collaborations! #columbiauniversity #delveunderground #downforthat
