In other words, at any given time, only 3% of people are in the “buying stage”. Most of the ads you see will be for this small slice of the pie. Investing 100% of your marketing budget for this tiny slice is a recipe for failure. It’s expensive, highly competitive, and you haven’t built any trust to win them … yet. The most successful brands don't ONLY sell to today's buyers. They invest a big portion of their marketing budget for tomorrow's buyers. They focus on the 97% from the get-go. It varies by industry, but roughly, here's the break down: - 3%: Buying Stage - 17%: Info-gathering stage - 20%: Problem-aware stage - 60%: Not even problem aware Start by targeting the bottom 60% - which is mostly ignored. Provide valuable information that makes them problem aware. Then target the 37% that are problem aware or are curious about finding a solution. Educate on how to solve category problems and you can transform this segment into loyal customers. Remember, these 97% of people aren’t ready to buy … But by educating them on how to solve their problem you’ll move down the funnel with them. When they get to the buying stage, they’ll think of you first and buy from you. You can do this by implementing a process that: 1. Attracts 2. Captures 3. Educates 4. Nurtures 5. And gets leads and prospects to act This is a funnel.
