Join Us for a Day of Impact at Clays for Kids! I invite you to the 7th Annual Clays for Kids event, co-chaired by Michael Callahan & Adrian Helfert This event isn't just about a day of sporting fun—it's about coming together as a community to protect and support our most vulnerable children. Why This Matters: Denver Children's Advocacy Center (DCAC) is a leader in responding to reports of child abuse and neglect in the City of Denver. Our mission is to keep kids safe and strengthen families through comprehensive counseling services for child victims and their non-offending family members. We collaborate with our community to protect children through prevention-focused initiatives. The statistics are heartbreaking: 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys will experience sexual abuse during childhood. Last year alone, the Denver Department of Human Services responded to over 4,400 reports of child abuse. At DCAC, we provided 7,204 mental health treatment sessions and conducted 688 forensic interviews, helping children find a path to healing. By participating in Clays for Kids, you're making a direct impact on the lives of these children. Your support helps us continue our critical work in abuse prevention, response, and providing mental health services. 📅 Date: Friday, October 4th 🕗 Time: 8 AM - 2 PM 📍 Location: Colorado Clays Shooting Park, 13600 Lanewood St. Brighton, CO 80603 The day includes breakfast, a 15-station clay shooting tournament, and lunch. Let’s stand together for the children who need us most. Teams and sponsorships are still available—register today and help us make a difference. 🔗 Register here: https://lnkd.in/gbHBGsVc Every child deserves to feel safe and loved. A story from Chris Curtis, Chief Deputy District Attorney. Content warning: This story refers to child sexual abuse. This May, DCAC Child and Family Advocate Annie Russell partnered with the District Attorney (DA) Office to support a child victim who was preparing to testify against her abuser in court. The case involved allegations of severely traumatizing sexual abuse. The victim, now 14, was 8 years old at the time of the abuse. Our Office knew that preparing for the trial, which had been pending since 2020, would be stressful and potentially traumatic for her. We decided to spend one final “prep day” at DCAC, knowing the friendly environment may be better for the victim and her mother. Annie volunteered to come and meet our victim and be with her during the trial. “The brief visit during the prep day was hugely reassuring to our victim, but moreover, Annie’s presence in court was truly a godsend.” During her testimony, the victim became emotionally overwhelmed, and needed a break. Annie was there to reassure her, and quite frankly she may not have been able to finish the testimony without the support. With Annie on her side, the victim came back stronger than before to finish confronting her abuser. “Our team is truly grateful to her for offering up her time so selflessly and unhesitatingly, and for being the friendly face this child needed to stand up for herself and finally have her story heard.” Thank you, Annie, for your work, and thank you to Chris Curtis for your partnership!
