#InternationalVultureAwarenessDay was on September 7, and we’re celebrating our Cinereous vultures, nature’s ultimate clean-up crew. By feasting on carrion, vultures help keep ecosystems healthy by preventing the spread of disease. Our nutrition team works closely with animal care specialists to ensure that our vultures receive the best diet possible, mirroring what they’d eat in the wild. In this latest Sooper Foods Spotlight, presented by @kingsoopers, Animal Care Specialist Clay Mitchell shares insights into these amazing birds and their vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. #SooperFoods #CinereousVultures

About us
Introducing Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance. New Name. Eternal Mission. For 128 years, Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance has connected people with wildlife. From our early years with just a few Colorado species to the 2,500+ animals thriving in our care today, we have cultivated a welcoming gateway to the wonders of the natural world. Today, our mission, Inspiring Communities to Save Wildlife for Future Generations, has never been more critical. This new name and logo reflect a renewed purpose: to continue delivering exceptional experiences on our historic campus, while doubling down on our commitment to conservation in Colorado and worldwide. #SavingWildlifeTogether

Summer may be winding down, but Mahali the hippo is still living his best life—especially when watermelon is involved! This food-loving hippo is always game for snack time, and food plays a large part of his enrichment and training. While Mahali wasn’t always a fan of watermelon, his amazing care team never gave up on trying new things with him. Thanks to their patience and trusting bonds, he’s officially a watermelon fan! Now, he can’t get enough of squishing and chomping away on this scrumptious snack. 🍉🦛 Video Credit: Animal Care Specialist Ben T.

Happy #IguanaAwarenessDay from Rex, our rhinoceros iguana! This day is all about raising awareness of iguanas and the challenges they face worldwide. At Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance, we're proud to care for several species, including the Mexican spiny-tailed iguana, the Endangered rhinoceros iguana, and the Endangered Fiji-banded iguana. Our Tropical Discovery residents are doing well while the building undergoes renovations and we're looking forward to welcoming guests back to this space soon! 🦎 Photo Credit: Animal Care Specialist Mariah S.

Calling all interpretative designers and production companies! We're seeking proposals for interpretive/design and production companies to help bring a new Conservation Action Station to life! This interactive station will be installed in the exit hall of Tropical Discovery and aims to inspire our guests to take action in protecting wildlife and keeping habitats healthy. We’re looking for individuals or organizations that can lead us in the co-creation, fabrication, and installation of this interactive, family-friendly exhibit that will empower visitors to learn about conservation and support a cleaner, healthier world for wildlife and people alike. Please reach out to Brittnay Frederick at bfrederick@denverzoo.org for details.
