D&I tip of the day: DEIA engages people and pertains to how the organization is configured to manage the complexity of producing positive experiences for different people through their products and services. It is a strategy for organizational and inclusive excellence. When the right motivation for DEIA is not present, it can serve to support personal and political agendas too. From an overexaggerated fear of being labeled “woke” to the inability of executives to communicate the business case, Diversity and sustainability have become pawns in a game in which there will be no winners. Diversity is not a law where organizations must comply. It’s a strategy that only the top performers will apply. While it benefits ALL people, it profits the company the most. Pay attention to the organization’s bottom-line results and the competitive positioning. There’s already evidence that some of the biggest anti-DEI activists are running companies that are floundering. If DEIA is so terrible, why aren’t these anti-DEIA executives doing better? DEIA is forward-thinking and positions organizations to take advantage of opportunities. When you bet against people in a knowledge + experience economy, you are squandering your biggest non-owned corporate asset and missing out on the ability to make quality improvements.

Pivot Point: Why are the most ardent opponents to DEI in multicultural marriages, have spouses who are immigrants, or are from families who recently immigrated to the US? Is there a deep seated desire to prove their "whiteness" by pushing back on DEI? What do you think? It feels like cognitive dissonance to me.

Today marks Women's Equality Day, a day to commemorate the tireless fight for women's suffrage and the enduring struggle for equality. The 19th Amendment, a landmark victory, enshrined the right to vote for all American women. However, the road to equality was, and remains, long and winding. While the 19th Amendment marked a turning point, the fight for voting rights wasn't over for all women. Women of color, Native Americans, and Asian Americans faced additional barriers for decades to come. This poster from Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) highlights the diverse individuals who championed this cause. The observance also challenges us to reflect on the continuing struggle for equality in the workplace, public life, and beyond. Let's use this day to recommit ourselves to creating a society where every one has an equal voice, regardless of gender. #WomensEqualityDay #VotingRights #Equality
