Teamwork makes the dream work. I recently had the privilege of spending time with the team working on Charybdis, the United States' first Jones Act-compliant offshore wind turbine installation vessel. Charybdis remains on schedule to be delivered and support Dominion Energy’s Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project in Virginia later this year. Charybdis is vital not only to CVOW, but also to the growth of the offshore wind industry along the Eastern Seaboard. It's part of our commitment to provide reliable, affordable, increasingly clean energy to power our customers every day.

  • Moving forward, piece by piece. 🎉 A transition piece is an essential component of offshore wind turbines. These pieces connect the monopile foundation—the component in the ocean—to the tower that you see above water. Each piece features a ladder and platform that allows offshore wind technicians to access the turbine for regular inspections. Climbing great heights is just one way we strive to deliver reliable and increasingly clean energy. Watch to see how we lift, secure, and transport nearly 540-ton transition pieces from the Port of Virginia to the CVOW lease area.

  • Helping kids go the extra mile! Dominion Energy volunteers joined students at GW Carver Intermediate School in Chesapeake, VA, in partnership with J&A Racing Inc through their Starting Strides program. This initiative provides Title 1 students with scholarships, running gear, and a new pair of tennis shoes, ensuring they have everything they need to cross the Operation Smile Shamrock Final Mile finish line at the Oceanfront! 💙👟

  • Another CVOW Milestone ✔️ The first offshore substation topside has been loaded onto a transport vessel for installation. 🎉 Weighing 4,300 tons, the offshore substation requires a slow, methodical transfer method to move from land onto the vessel. Once loaded, this barge will travel from Portsmouth Marine Terminal to the CVOW lease where the Orion, an installation vessel, will place the offshore substation topside on top of the offshore substation jacket foundation. Upon project completion, the clean energy generated by the wind turbines will be bundled at the offshore substation and exported to homes and businesses.
