Had a great discussion today hosted by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) with Virginie Helias, Nathaniel Keohane, and moderated by Rich Lesser about accelerating and scaling decarbonization in our industry. As #ClimateWeek unfolds, it’s clear that meaningful partnerships and significant investments by all players in the value chain are crucial to reducing emissions in the materials sector and beyond. There are three key elements to accelerating investment in our sector: ▶Clear Demand: We need a clear signal of demand from customers and the marketplace. By 2030, we estimate significant demand for low emissions products, based on commitments from leading brands. This demand influences our strategic investments, like our net-zero Scope 1 & 2 emissions cracker site in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. ▶Value Flow: Capital must flow to where decarbonization is needed. Our industry’s supply chain is complex, and we need to ensure investments are directed to the right places. ▶Timing: Our manufacturing projects are large-scale and require significant financial investment. It can take 5-10 years from project inception to production, so we need to plan our investments well in advance. The path to decarbonization is complex, but by collaborating with our value chain partners, we can drive meaningful change and create a sustainable future for our industry. #BCGatClimateWeek24

Building the world’s first #NetZero Scope 1 & 2 emissions ethylene complex includes retrofitting existing facilities in addition to expanding our site's capabilities through the construction of new assets. This #FortSask project is an example of the steps we’re taking to protect the #climate while driving business growth. Check out our progress ▶️
