Members of ECU Health's Pediatric Trauma Program and The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University Clinical Simulation Center had the opportunity to run a trauma simulation during the EMS at the OBX conference. The event gave first responders in North Carolina and Virginia a day of hands-on training for scenarios they've not encountered. "It's such an amazing opportunity to be able to run through a scenario that you may see in real life, but in a safe space. So you have the opportunity to learn to really use your hands to practice the skills when it's not somebody's life that's on the line," said Erika Greene, pediatric trauma program manager at ECU Health Medical Center. Improving the health and well-being of eastern North Carolina
About us
We come to work every day in order to help you and the 1.4 million people like you across eastern North Carolina. In the face of a rapidly changing health care landscape — increasing competition, advancing technologies and a host of other external pressures — many health care systems lose sight of what’s important. Not ECU Health. Even as we grow, we know that progress isn’t just about moving forward. It’s about how we move forward. That’s why we’ve always been, and always will be, a mission-driven health care system. Our mission, vision and values continue to lead us on a voyage to excellence. Because the people we take care of — our neighbors, friends and family — deserve the best.

Access East, a nonprofit ECU Health affiliate, has reached more than 2,000 farm workers in just under two months through a program designed to help enroll members of the farmworker community in insurance while also directing them to available community health care options. The Farmworker Program is also helping with emergency medical training for farm workers, which Juan Allen, a community coordinator with Access East, said is crucial. "Last year we lost four farm workers to heat stroke, and someone else passed away because no one in the field knew CPR,” he said. “So, we go out to the farms and do CPR training, heat exhaustion and heat stroke education, Stop the Bleed training, education about tobacco sickness and anything else they need.” Learn more about the program and its impact here: https://lnkd.in/e9j5bGGN
