EDA recently transformed a decades-old corporate office space with an entirely fresh look and feel. Our design strategy minimized expensive structural or mechanical changes and instead focused on upscale finishes and energy upgrades. Program elements include a 24-hour control room, gathering spaces for meetings and collaboration and office spaces equipped for remote and in-person work. We're kicking off September – National Council on Aging's #NationalSeniorCenterMonth – by taking a look back at the EDA designed Midvale and Draper Senior Centers. Providing a modern Senior Center experience, both served as a paradigm shift in senior center design for Salt Lake County. The programming and design of these facilities promote active aging; responding to the needs of a new generation of seniors while providing the services required by the older generations. Each draws inspiration from hospitality design and provides open, light-filled space to meet the needs of all users. For the second school year in a row Waterford students get to come back to school to a new building. Last year was the Murray Science Center. This year It’s the new Miller Student Common – dedicated last Friday - and EDA is proud to have been the architect for both. At the north entrance of the Waterford, the Student Commons serves as a welcoming "front door" to the rest of the campus. Its design serves to unite the entire Waterford community through a dedicated gathering area. A multi-functional space, the dining hall brings Waterford students together in an inclusive space shaped by the students themselves. It fosters student expression, curiosity, and stewardship by providing a building with spaces for ownership, display and study. None of which would be possible without the hard work and generosity of the donors that value the necessity of functional and effective education spaces in Utah.
