🎉 We’re thrilled to announce Empatica’s partnership with the global clinical research organization Allucent to support their award with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). We’ll be assisting Allucent with PROJECT REMOTE, a decentralized phase IV home focus COVID-19 vaccine trial funded under Project NextGen, an initiative by HHS to advance the next generation of vaccines, therapeutics, and enabling technologies. Allucent will use the EmbracePlus wearable and Empatica Health Monitoring Platform to collect continuous, real-time physiological data from 4,000 participants. In the words of Empatica’s CEO and Co-founder, Matteo Lai, “We are honored to contribute our technology to this critical initiative. Our previous collaborations with BARDA have already led to significant advancements, such as developing and validating an algorithm that predicts respiratory infections during the pandemic. We look forward to continuing our support of public health emergency preparedness efforts through this initiative, and to leveraging our digital health technologies to advance scientific knowledge and support development of new medical products”. We had the opportunity to interview Dr. Steve Riechman, Associate Professor at Texas A&M University, about his groundbreaking #ResearchStudy using EmbracePlus to identify breath biomarkers of fatigue. Fatigue isn’t just exhausting — its effects can be fatal. This led Dr. Riechman to examine physical fatigue, sleep deprivation fatigue, and mental fatigue of subjects, working alongside the United States Department of Defense. Over 7 weeks, the EmbracePlus wearable achieved over 80% wear time. Having just completed the study, Riechman is now highly focused on validating the breath biomarkers of fatigue. Here’s what Dr. Riechman had to say about the tech: "I really liked that EmbracePlus and the Empatica Health Monitoring Platform are focused on clinical trials and are FDA-cleared. That represents a higher standard, whereas off-the-shelf commercial devices aren't necessarily held to the same standards."
